In one embodiment, the inner profile has a first substantially concave profile in an unclamped position and a second substantially flat profile in a clamped position. In one embodiment, the deflection control profile has one or more sets of corresponding abutment surfaces, at least one set of which is not contacting each other when the inner profile is in the unclamped position and which is contacting each other when the inner profile is in the clamped position. In one embodiment, the surgical clamp jaw defines one or more flexion assistance voids, wherein at least one of the one or more flexion assistance voids is in contact with a gap between one of the one or more sets of corresponding abutment surfaces.
Mechanical Tissue Coupling System, Applicator Therefor and Method of Use Thereof
A mechanical tissue coupling system that includes a first side tissue grasping assembly, a second side tissue grasping assembly and a joining assembly. The joining assembly is structurally configured to join the first side tissue grasping assembly to the second side tissue grasping assembly. An applicator is likewise disclosed as is a method of using the system and the applicator.

FLUID PRESSURE BASED END EFFECTOR FORCE TRANSDUCER
A surgical instrument is provided that includes an elongated shaft; an end effector located at the distal end of the shaft includes first and second jaws having opposing working faces and a pivot axis; at least one of the first and second jaws is mounted to rotatably pivot about the pivot axis. A fluid filled sac includes a first bladder portion and a second bladder portion and a tube portion extending between the first and second bladder portions; the first bladder portion is located at a working face of the first jaw; a sensor is operatively coupled to the second bladder portion to produce a sensor signal indicative of fluid pressure within the fluid filled sac.
Surgical clamp and clamp jaw
A surgical clamp jaw is disclosed, having an inner profile and a deflection control profile opposite the inner profile.
LAPAROSCOPIC TOOL COVER AND METHOD OF USE
A laparoscopic tool sheath for covering a body of a laparoscope, the cover includes an elongated body, having a rubber base; and a highly absorbable top coating; a central passageway extending from a distal end of the elongated body to a proximal end of the elongated body; a distal lens integral to the distal end of the elongated body; the cover is able to quickly and easily be removed from the laparoscopic tool for disposal.
SHIELDING FEATURES FOR ULTRASONIC BLADE OF A SURGICAL INSTRUMENT
An apparatus comprises a body, a shaft assembly, an end effector, and a shield member. The shaft assembly extends distally from the body. The end effector is located at a distal end of the shaft assembly. The end effector comprises an ultrasonic blade and a clamp arm. The ultrasonic blade is configured to vibrate at an ultrasonic frequency. The clamp arm is movable toward the ultrasonic blade to compress tissue against the ultrasonic blade. The shield member is selectively movable from a first position to a second position in response to movement of the clamp arm toward the ultrasonic blade. The shield member is configured cover at least a first portion of the ultrasonic blade in the first position. The shield member is configured to uncover the first portion of the ultrasonic blade in the second position.
TENACULUM
An instrument such as a tenaculum comprises a pair of jaws (202, 203) which are pivotal from an open configuration in which the jaws (202, 203) are splayed apart to a closed low profile delivery configuration. The jaws (202, 203) each have tissue engagement features (201). A protector loop (200) for each jaw which may be of a shape memory material such as Nitinol provides a safety protective distal tip which is distal of the tissue engaging features (201). The atraumatic tip does not harm tissue and does not compromise the integrity of a bag which may be used as a containment device in a procedure such as a hysterectomy.
ADAPTERS, SYSTEMS INCORPORATING THE SAME, AND METHODS FOR PROVIDING AN ELECTROSURGICAL FORCEPS WITH CLIP-APPLYING FUNCTIONALITY
Adapters for use with surgical systems including a surgical forceps, and a surgical clip; and methods for providing clip-applying functionality are disclosed. The adapter is releasably engagable with the end effector assembly of the surgical forceps. The surgical clip is releasably engagable with the adapter. With the surgical clip engaged with the adapter and the adapter engaged with the end effector assembly, the jaw members of the end effector assembly are configured to move from the spaced-apart position towards the approximated position to move the jaw bodies of the adapter towards one another to, in turn, urge the legs of the surgical clip towards one another to form the surgical clip.
Features to apply fluid to an ultrasonic blade of a surgical instrument
An apparatus comprises a body, a shaft assembly, an end effector, and a wetting member. The shaft assembly extends distally from the body. The end effector is located at a distal end of the shaft assembly. The end effector comprises an ultrasonic blade that is configured to vibrate at an ultrasonic frequency. The wetting member is selectively movable between a first position and a second position. The wetting member is configured to be spaced away from the ultrasonic blade in the first position. The wetting member is configured to contact the ultrasonic blade in the second position and thereby apply a cooling fluid to the ultrasonic blade.
