A coiled shaft for tissue disruption is described herein where a flexible aspiration cannula has a first portion and a second portion formed of the coiled shaft. The cannula is configured in a particular embodiment to rotate over the length of the cannula to disrupt the matrix of bone marrow without the cannula buckling or collapsing. The cannula also includes a disruption tip coupled to the coiled shaft. The disruption tip has a radiused portion along a distal tip face of the disruption tip.

A method and a device for secured retrieval of tissue from inside a patient body and a kit comprising the device. the device comprises a tube housing a movable cutter. The cutter controllably extends from the tube while allowing continued fluid communication. The device comprises a retractable enclosure with a supporting frame linked to an impermeable membrane comprising an opening. Amplitude of the supporting frame is controlled. The opening in the impermeable membrane is unseal when enclosure is expanded and, when the tissue is positioned within the enclosure, the opening is sealably closed in the impermeable membrane. The moveable cutter morcellates the tissue into tissue specimens when the opening in the impermeable membrane is sealably closed while amplitude of the supporting frame is reduced to compress the tissue specimens and the tissue specimens are able to transit in the fluid communication channel through a discharging aperture after morcellation.

A surgical apparatus for positioning within a tissue incision to access an underlying body cavity and remove a tissue specimen therefrom includes a wound retractor having a specimen bag attached thereto. The wound retractor includes a proximal ring, a distal ring, and a film extending therebetween defining a longitudinal passage therethrough. The specimen bag is attached to the distal ring of the wound retractor and permits placement of a tissue specimen to be removed from the body therein.

SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR REMOVING A TISSUE SPECIMEN OR ORGAN THROUGH A SMALL INCISION OR NATURAL OPENING IN A PATIENT

Systems and methods for facilitating the removal of a tissue specimen from a patient are disclosed. The systems include a bag or pouch, a tissue cutter device, a support and a stabilizer. The tissue cutter device includes a passer, a wire, and a handle. The support is an elongated member. The passer is an elongated member configured to be coupled to the support and introduced as a temporary unit into the mouth of the bag or pouch in the patient's body holding the tissue specimen. The wire is attached to the passer. The temporary unit is configured to pass around the tissue specimen and out of the opening in the bag or pouch to carry the wire through that path so that a distal portion of the wire and a proximal portion of the wire are outside the patient's body. Those portions of the wire can be pulled to cut into the tissue specimen. The stabilizer holds the tissue specimen as the wire cuts into it. The bag or pouch includes direction-bearing indicia to facilitate viewing of the methods from within the patient's body.

TISSUE REMOVAL DEVICES AND METHODS

Devices and methods for tissue removal are disclosed herein, including those in which a powered rotary tool actuates a cutting blade to sever tissue and drives an auger to transport the severed tissue proximally through the device. The severed tissue can be collected in an on-board collection chamber for subsequent use as graft material or otherwise (e.g., assay, analysis, post-processing, etc.). Devices of the type disclosed herein can reduce or eliminate the need to move the device in and out of the surgical site, reduce user input force, and provide improved ergonomics and increased user focus.

A resecting probe includes a shaft assembly having an outer sleeve and an inner sleeve. The outer sleeve has an axial bore and an outer window in a distal side thereof, and the inner sleeve has an axial extraction channel and inner window in a distal side thereof. The inner sleeve is rotationally disposed in the axial bore of the outer sleeve to allow the inner sleeve window to be rotated in and out of alignment with the outer sleeve window, and the shaft assembly forms a flow aperture in a distal portion when the inner cutting window and the outer cutting window are out of alignment. An electrode is carried on the inner sleeve, and a motor drive is coupled to rotate the inner sleeve relative to the outer sleeve. A controller is coupled to the motor drive and controls rotation of the inner sleeve.

A method for detaching an object from a patient includes providing a tool having a sheath, and a separating assembly operably coupled to a distal end of the sheath. The separating assembly includes a separator moveably coupled to a tip via a threadable connection. The separating assembly is placed near patient tissue that is attached to the object, the sheath is rotated to move the separator distal to the tip, and the separator is applied to the patient tissue that is attached to the object, so as to separate the tissue. A separating system includes a sheath, and a separator threadably coupled with a distal end of the sheath. The separator is adapted to switch between a first configuration where a separating mechanism is deployed, and a second configuration where the separating mechanism is undeployed.
