Apparatus and method to stop bleeding

A hemostatic device is provided to stop bleeding at a puncture site on the wrist of a patient, the device comprising a transparent flexible band to be wrapped at the site where the bleeding is to be stopped, a curved frame having an inner peripheral side and possessing a first curved portion in its first half and a second curved portion in its second half, a first balloon provided on the inner peripheral side in the first half of the curved frame and a second balloon provided on the inner peripheral side in the second half of the curved frame. The bleeding from a first artery is stopped by compressing the first artery at the puncture site using inflation of the first balloon and the blood flow in the first artery is increased by compression of a second artery using inflation of the second balloon.

A blade disarmer is provided herein. The blade disarmer includes a base member having an elongated portion, a bottom portion, and first and second walls extending from the elongated portion. A cover member is removably attached to the base member forming a cavity therebetween. The cover member includes a hinge separating a body portion and a tab. A pair of dome-shaped portions is disposed on the tab configured to assist a pair of side surfaces of the tab proximate each respective dome-shaped portion to flex laterally. A closure mechanism is disposed on the first and second walls and configured to maintain the tab in a plurality of positions. First and second protrusions extend into the cavity.

This device enables the user to access and store the blade in a safe manner where the chances of accidental puncture are greatly reduced. The device enables the user to store the sharps blade in the device in such a manner that will allow the user to autoclave or sterilize the storage device and the blade at the same time. The device is designed for multiple uses over a wide range of different blades, such as the myriad of surgical blades and blades used in the hobby and crafts arena using X-Acto knife style of blades. When a singular device is used for the storage, application and re-loading of sharps, the user is more familiar with the operation of the device, which leads to more comfort of the user in dealing with sharps blades. Also since the operating room has minimal space to store the necessary tools and devices, when a single device can have multiple uses it is advantageous and space saving.
