Craniofacial external distraction apparatus
An external distraction apparatus for performing a craniofacial distraction is disclosed. The external distraction apparatus may comprise a stationary member. The stationary member may be configured to be affixed to a head of a patient. The external distraction apparatus may also comprise laterally disposed distractors. The laterally disposed distractors may extend inferiorly from the stationary member and be moveable relative to the stationary member. The external distraction apparatus may comprise a motor and controller. The motor may be powered with the controller to perform a craniofacial distraction in an automated fashion.
FIXATION DEVICE
A fixation device comprises a first body having a threaded end, a longitudinal axis, and a bore perpendicular to the longitudinal axis. A second body is received in the bore. The second body has an exterior thread and an interior passage for receiving a pin or wire. The second body has a wire locking device for retaining the pin or wire. An advance nut engages the exterior thread. The advance nut abuts the first body for moving the wire locking device away from the first body when the advance nut is turned, for tensioning the pin or wire.
Device to be implanted in human or animal tissue and method for implanting and assembling the device
An implant or endoprosthesis suitable to be implanted in human or animal tissue includes two (or more than two) parts to be joined in situ. Each one of the parts includes a joining location, the two joining locations facing each other when the device parts are positioned for being joined together, wherein one of the joining locations includes a material which is liquefiable by mechanical vibration and the other one of the joining locations includes a material which is not liquefiable by mechanical vibration and a structure (e.g. undercut cavities or protrusions) suitable for forming a positive fit connection with the liquefiable material. The joining process is effected by pressing the two device parts against each other and by applying ultrasonic vibration to one of the device parts when the two parts are positioned relative to each other such that the two joining locations are in contact with each other.
EXTERNAL FIXATOR SYSTEM
An external fixation frame for correcting a bone deformity includes a first fixation ring and a second fixation ring. A posterior adjustable length strut couples a posterior portion of the first fixation ring to a posterior portion of the second fixation ring and has universal joint. Medial and lateral adjustable length struts couples medial and lateral portions of the first fixation ring to medial and lateral portions of the second fixation ring respectively, each of the medial and lateral adjustable length struts including a constrained hinge joint. The fixation frame also includes a half ring hingedly coupled to the second fixation ring, and an anterior adjustable length strut coupling an anterior portion of the first fixation ring to the half ring.
DEVICE FOR EXTERNAL ORTHOPEDIC FIXATIONS
A device for external orthopedic fixations, which has one or more frames which have a substantially and/or partially annular shape and are suitable for being arranged around a limb to surround it at least partially, wherein one or more rods are fixed to a frame by means of a locking mechanism is provided. The device has two jaws which, when closed, tighten the locking mechanism to a portion of the frame by exerting a prevalently axial force, wherein the jaws are closed by means of a cam mechanism suitable for being actuated by rotating a lever pivoted to a first jaw and provided with one or more cam surfaces cooperating with a surface of the second jaw.
Circular fixator system and method
A device includes a plurality of rings. Each ring has a first face, a second face, and at least one slot defined by first and second interior edges of the ring on opposing sides of the slot. The at least one slot penetrates from the first face to the second face. The first face of each ring has a first recess adjacent the slot on the first edge and a second recess adjacent the slot on the second edge. A plurality of posts join each one of the plurality of rings to an adjacent one of the plurality of rings.
Orthopedic external fixation device
An orthopedic system includes a universal joint. The universal joint includes a ball from which a stem extends, a housing, and a connecting piece. The housing includes a first portion and a second portion that together define a spherical internal volume that is sized and configured to receive the ball therein. The first portion defines a first opening through which at least one of a portion of the ball or a portion of the stem extends, and the second portion defining a second opening therethrough. The connecting piece includes a first threaded stem portion, a second threaded stem portion, and a middle portion disposed between the first and second threaded stem portions. The first threaded stem portion is sized and configured to be received within the second opening defined by the second portion and to contact the ball to generate a frictional interference to lock the universal joint.
Transcutaneous joint unloading device
Various methods for treating a joint are disclosed herein. According to one method, a joint is surgically treated by performing a surgical repair treatment on tissue within the joint capsule; implanting a load reducing device at the joint and entirely outside of the joint capsule to reduce load transmitted by the treated tissue to allow for the tissue within the joint capsule to heal; and partially unloading the joint during healing of the surgical repair site.
Adjustable orthopaedic joint distractor
An orthopaedic joint distractor includes a stem post defining a pivoting axis, an actuator configured to cause translational movement of the stem post, a locking sleeve holding the actuator and the stem post, a distractor arc held by the locking sleeve orthogonally to the pivoting axis and having a surface, and a first locking member held by the locking sleeve that can be advanced away from and toward the surface. The first locking member prevents rotation of the distractor arc about the pivoting axis when it has advanced a sufficient distance toward the surface.
