Surgical implant system and method
A surgical instrument comprises a first portion defining a cavity configured for disposal of a first implant support member. A second portion defines at least one passageway aligned with the cavity and including a guide engageable with a second implant support member to orient the second implant support member with the at least one passageway such that the second implant support member is connectable with the first implant support member. Systems, spinal constructs, spinal implants and methods are disclosed.
MEDICAL INSTRUMENTATION AND METHOD
The invention relates to a medical instrumentation with a navigation system which comprises an optical detection unit comprising a camera, and a data processing unit coupled to the detection unit, with a stabilization element of a surgical fixation system and with a medical marking device which is held in a defined spatial arrangement on or is comprised by or formed by the stabilization element, the location and orientation of the marking device in space being determinable with the navigation system, it being possible for at least two images of the stabilization element and the marking device to be taken from a different orientation by means of the detection unit and for the shape of the stabilization element to be determined by the data processing unit on the basis of the two or more images. The invention also relates to a method for determining the shape of a surgical stabilization element.
BONE TIE AND PORTAL
Various systems and methods for treating the spine are provided. A portal system can be provided for treating the spine. The portal system can include a portal comprising a proximal end and a distal end, a first passageway extending between the proximal end and the distal end, a second passageway extending between the proximal end and the distal end, and a latch. The bone tie can include a head, a body section comprising one or more gears, and a fastener section comprising a ratchet.
KIRSCHNER WIRE BENDING DEVICE
A device for bending a kirschner wire comprises: a retaining slot for fixing a kirschner wire, with a contact for applying a bending force to a steel needle fixed by the retaining slot being disposed at a lateral of the retaining slot. Compared with the prior art in which clamping heads are used to clamp a steel needle first and then the steel needle is forcibly bent in the clamped state in most cases, which may be time-consuming and strenuous, the present invention provides not only a device for bending and chipping off an orthopedic steel needle in one time, which is applicable to cases where chipping off of steel needles is required, but also a device capable of only bending a steel needle, which is low in requirement on material and low in manufacturing cost as the force for bending a steel needle is far smaller than the force for chipping off the same, and thus is applicable to cases where only bending of steel needles is required.
Percutaneous spinal cross link system and method
A percutaneous spinal cross link system for interconnecting a spinal fusion construct on one side of the longitudinal axis of the spine with a spinal fusion construct on the other side of the longitudinal axis may include a cross bar connected at each end by a respective connector to a respective spinal fusion rod of each of the spinal fusion constructs. The connector may include a rod receiving portion adapted to receive one of the spinal fusion rods and a cross bar receiving portion adapted receive the cross bar in an orientation generally perpendicular to the spinal fusion rod. A cannula defined by two spaced apart blades may be connected to the connector for defining a minimally invasive pathway through body tissue for introduction of the cross bar to the connector. Other tools for use with the system are also disclosed.
Spinal stabilization system
A spinal stabilization system including a connecting rod and a bone screw. The connecting rod includes an elongate rounded section, an elongate head portion, and a neck portion connecting the elongate rounded section with the elongate head portion. The bone screw includes a head portion defining a slot, a shank extending longitudinally from the head portion, and a set screw configured to secure the connecting rod in the slot. The head portion includes a pair of radially opposing walls defining the slot therebetween. The head portion includes a trailing end and a leading end. The trailing end includes a guide member defining an aperture configured and dimensioned to receive the set screw therethrough. The aperture is in communication with the slot. In particular, the guide member interconnects the pair of radially opposing walls.
SACRAL TETHER ANCHOR AND METHODS OF USE
A system for restricting flexion of a spinal segment in a patient comprises a constraint device having a tether structure and a compliance member coupled with the tether structure. The tether structure is adapted to be coupled with a superior spinous process and a sacrum. The system also includes an anchor member that is anchored to the sacrum. The anchor member has an attachment feature that is adapted to couple with the constraint device.
VARIABLE ANGLE CANNULATED BONE SCREW AND METHODS FOR USE THEREOF
A bone screw and a method for using same, the bone screw comprising an elongated shaft including a proximal end, a distal end, a leading portion, and intermediate portion and a trailing portion, the elongated shaft defining a longitudinal axis; a cannula bored completely through said elongated shaft extending from said distal end to said proximal end, the cannula aligned with said longitudinal axis; the leading portion having at least one thread; the intermediate portion being unthreaded; and the trailing portion comprising a threaded tapered head adapted engage a threaded hole at a selectable angle.
Spinal stabilization system
A spinal stabilization system includes a connecting rod, a rod bending device, and a plurality of bone screws. The connecting rod includes an elongate round portion, an elongate head portion and a neck portion connecting the elongate round portion with the elongate head portion. The rod bending device includes an elongate body defining an aperture configured and dimensioned to receive the connecting rod therethrough in a single orientation. The bone screws include a housing portion and a screw shaft distally extending from the housing portion. The housing portion includes an inner housing and an outer housing slidably surrounding at least a portion of the inner housing. The inner housing defines a slot configured and dimensioned to releasably secure the elongate round portion of the connecting rod therein. The outer housing is movable relative to the inner housing between an unlocked state and a locked state.
PEDICLE SCREW HAVING A REMOVABLE ROD COUPLING
A pedicle screw for spinal fixation having a bone fastener portion a permanent rod coupling, a breakaway portion connected to the permanent rod coupling and a temporary rod coupling. A permanent rod can be positioned in the permanent rod coupling and a temporary rod can be positioned in the temporary rod coupling and when the temporary rod is not needed the temporary rod coupling can be removed by separation at a breakaway portion.
