Intervertebral implant with integrated fixation
A surgical instrument and method are provided for removal of a spinal implant from the intervertebral disc space. The instrument includes a carriage body for interfacing with the implant, a housing for interfacing with the vertebrae, and a handle portion having a first portion rotatably coupled with a proximal end of the housing and a second portion rotatably engageable with a proximal attachment portion of the carriage body. A central passage of the housing extends between the proximal end and a distal engagement surface of the housing. The central passage is dimensioned to mate with the carriage body. Rotation of the handle portion about an axis causes translational movement of the carriage body along the axis. A modular inserter/distractor apparatus and method and an anchor remover and method are also provided.
Bone plating system clamp sizing instrument and installation instrument
A measuring instrument configured to measure a bone and a plate to determine the size of an attachment clamp, including: a medial clamp configured to engage a medial portion of the bone; a medial gauge connected to the medial clamp, the medial gauge including: a key along a portion of the medial gauge adjacent the medial clamp; a gauge indicator configured to indicate the size of attachment clamp; and a threaded portion; a lateral clamp configured to engage a plate on the bone, where the lateral clamp has a hollow portion with a channel, wherein the gauge indicator is positioned in the hollow portion and wherein the channel is configured to engage the key of the gauge indicator to prevent the lateral clamp from rotating about the gauge indicator; and a tightening knob threaded onto the thread portion of the of the medial gauge, wherein one end of the tightening knob indicates on the gauge indicator the size of the attachment clamp.
ORTHOPEDIC FASTENERS, INSTRUMENTS AND METHODS
Examples of the invention relate to methods, implants, and instruments for compressing first and second bone portions or a bone portion and an implant together.
Implant and method for long bone fixation
An implant and method for fixation of long bones. The implant provides rotational, longitudinal, and bending stability. The implant comprises one or more elongated members that span the intramedullary cavity of a long bone, a distal tip that expands radially relative to the long axis of the implant, and a locking mechanism at the proximal end of the implant.
METHOD AND IMPLANT SYSTEM FOR SACROILIAC JOINT FIXATION AND FUSION
An improved method of fusing the sacroiliac joint and tools for accomplishing the same is disclosed. In one embodiment, the present invention is a method that uses an intra-articular joint fusion device for connecting the sacrum and ilium that includes creating a first incision in the patient's skin proximal to the patient's sacroiliac joint, inserting a surgical channel tool into the incision from the patient's posterior, creating a void in the sacroiliac joint, inserting a fusion implant into the void, the fusion implant having at least one fixation element for engagement with bone tissue in the articular surfaces of the sacrum and the ilium, and driving the fusion implant into the void such that the at least one fixation element engages with bone tissue in an articular surface of at least one of the sacrum and ilium, and the fusion implant fixes relative positions of the sacrum and ilium.
INSTRUMENT FOR USE IN SURGERY
An instrument for use in surgery includes a hollow shaft connectable to a drive shaft of a bone anchor insertion device in a rotationally fixed manner, a needle holder configured to hold a needle and movable axially relative to the hollow shaft, an actuator rotatable relative to the hollow shaft, and a transmission member connectable to the needle holder and movable axially relative to the actuator. The transmission member is positionable around at least part of the hollow shaft and includes a first advancement surface engageable with a second advancement surface of the hollow shaft to convert a rotational movement of the actuator into axial movement of the needle holder relative to the hollow shaft for axially advancing and retracting the needle held by the needle holder.
DESIGN AND METHOD FOR PROXIMAL AND DISTAL SCREW FIXATION IN INTRAMEDULLARY TIBIAL NAILS
An IM tibial nail aiming guide for providing proximal and distal screw fixation in an intramedullary nailing (IMN) of a tibia includes an attachment that connects and disconnects easily from a jig's proximal handle. Specifically, the IM tibial nail aiming guide functions as an aiming guide for accurate fixation of all the respective proximal and distal screw holes in a tibial nail. The IM tibial nail aiming guide has a length and angle that are adjustable, affording the ability to use this IM tibial nail aiming guide with any tibial nail. This IM tibial nail aiming guide is made of radiolucent material that allows for a confirmatory fluoroscopic imaging to verify that both the proximal and distal screws are fixated appropriately. The IM tibial nail aiming guide permits a more accurate, safe, versatile, and efficient approach to tibial IMN.
BONE SCREW
A bone screw, such as a pedicle screw, comprises an anchor portion and a sleeve portion, the anchor portion including an angled or curved portion and an externally threaded portion. The sleeve portion having an external thread for engaging bone, and a threaded internal bore for engaging the externally threaded portion of the anchor portion.
SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR SURGICALLY-PREPARING A PATIENT'S FEMUR
An orthopaedic joint replacement system is shown and described. The system includes a number of prosthetic components configured to be implanted into a patient's knee. The system also includes a number of surgical instruments configured for use in preparing the bones of the patient's knee to receive the implants. A method or technique for using the surgical instruments to prepare the bones is also disclosed.
INTRAMEDULLARY IMPLANT AND METHOD OF USE
A bone implant includes a proximal end, a distal end, a first portion extending between the proximal and distal ends having a maximum and minimum portion height, and a second portion extending between the proximal and distal ends having a maximum and minimum portion height. The second portion is connected to the first portion at the proximal end and the distal end and at least one of the first portion and the second portion is moveable relative to the other of the first portion and the second portion so as to transition the bone implant between a relaxed state wherein the first and second portions are separated by a first distance and a contracted state wherein the first and second portions are separated by a second distance different from the first distance. At least one of the proximal end and the distal end have the minimum portion height.
