SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR AN IMPROVED GRAPHICAL USER INTERFACE THAT PROVIDES INDEPENDENT CONTROL OF MULTIPLE RADIOFREQUENCY PROBES DURING AN ABLATION PROCEDURE
A system for delivering energy to a patient's body includes a plurality of probes, a touch-sensitive display screen, and a controller communicatively coupled to each of the probes and the display screen. The controller is configured to perform operations including displaying a plurality of dynamically sized channel control regions within a user interface of the touch-sensitive display screen. Each of the plurality of channel control regions corresponds with at least one of the plurality of probes and is sized based at least in part on a number of the plurality of probes. The operations can include detecting a user touch action directed to a user-selected channel control region of the plurality of dynamically sized channel control regions. The operations can include performing a control action associated with the probe(s) that correspond with the user-selected channel control region when the user touch action is detected.
MEDICAL DEVICE AND METHOD FOR ACCESSING THE PERICARDIAL SPACE
A medical device includes a guidewire extending between a proximal portion defining a proximal end and a distal portion defining a distal end. The distal portion includes a radially expandable part, and the guidewire is movable between a retracted configuration in which the part is radially retracted and an expanded configuration in which the part is radially expanded. The part is radiopaque.
Surgical instrument comprising electrode support
A branch of an instrument comprising a metal part, which is embodied in one piece seamlessly, which comprises the electrode support as well as the electrode plate and connection webs. Preferably, this metal part is produced in an additive production method, for example selective laser melting (SLM). The branches are suitable for instruments for open surgery as well as for laparoscopic and flexible endoscopic instruments.
ELECTROSURGICAL INSTRUMENT
An end effector assembly of a surgical instrument includes opposing first and second jaw members. A first sealing plate is positioned on the first jaw member. The first sealing plate defines a first surface facing the second jaw member. A second sealing plate is positioned on the second jaw member. The second sealing plate defines a second surface facing the first jaw member. A mesa is formed in the first sealing plate. The mesa protrudes from the first surface toward the second surface in the second position of the first and second jaw members. A material is disposed on the mesa. The mesa and the material define a stop member. The stop member maintains a gap distance between the first and second surfaces when the first and second jaw members are in the second position.
Radiofrequency perforation apparatus
Medical devices are disclosed having improved visualization of a portion of the medical device insertable into a patient's body while minimizing obstruction of fluid flow through a lumen of the device and while minimizing an increase in the outer diameter of the device attributable to the feature providing improved visualization. The device can include, for example, an imaging marker distal to lumen openings (exit ports), or, where the device comprises a tube, such as a metallic tube, an imaging marker embedded into a wall of the tube. Another embodiment includes attaching a marker to the surface on the inside of a lumen of a medical device without embedding the marker. Various alternative embodiments, methods and applications of using such devices are disclosed as well.
Electrosurgical instrument and method for manufacturing thereof
An electrosurgical instrument with first and second branches that are pivotably supported by a support pin is disclosed. The first branch has a first tissue contact surface and the second branch has a second tissue contact surface. The two tissue contact surfaces are electrically connected with an electric connection device at the first branch. The electric connection is at least partly established via a respective conductor. The second conductor is integrally formed by one single body. The second conductor has a contact section with at least one contact part in contact with an electrically conductive circumferential surface of the support pin, such that an electric rotation connection is established between the contact section and the support pin. In this manner the second conductor arranged in the first branch can establish an electric connection with the second branch via the support pin and further with the second tissue contact surface.
Smoke mitigation assembly for bipolar pencil
An electrosurgical pencil includes a housing having proximal and distal ends, the proximal end adapted to connect to an energy source and the distal end adapted to receive an end effector assembly therein, the end effector assembly defining a surface area along a length thereof. An activation switch is operably associated with the housing and is configured to deliver electrosurgical energy to the end effector assembly upon actuation thereof. An air control valve is operatively coupled to the activation switch and is configured to simultaneously deliver a gas from a gas source to the surface area around the end effector upon actuation of the activation switch. One or more vents are defined in the distal end of the housing and are configured to direct the gas towards the surface area of the end effector.
Graphical user interface for association with an electrode structure deployed in contact with a tissue region
Systems and methods deploy an electrode structure in contact with the tissue region. The electrode structure carries a sensor at a known location on the electrode structure to monitor an operating condition. The systems and methods provide an interface, which generate an idealized image of the electrode structure and an indicator image to represent the monitored operating condition in a spatial position on the idealized image corresponding to the location of the sensor on the electrode structure. The interface displays a view image comprising the idealized image and indicator image. The systems and methods cause the electrode structure to apply energy to heat the tissue region while the view image is displayed on the display screen.
ENGAGEMENT FEATURES AND METHODS FOR ATTACHING A DRIVE ROD TO A KNIFE BLADE IN AN ARTICULATING SURGICAL INSTRUMENT
A method for attaching a drive rod to a knife includes: forming a knife having proximal and distal ends; forming an aperture within the proximal end of the knife, the aperture including a series of fins disposed therein; weaving a distal end of a knife rod through the series of fins in an alternating manner; and engaging a cap onto the distal end of the knife drive rod to secure the knife drive rod within the aperture of the knife.
ELECTROSURGICAL DEVICE FOR VESSEL SEALING
An end effector assembly of a forceps includes a first jaw member and a second jaw member. The first jaw member and the second jaw member are selectively positionable relative to one another. At least one of the jaw members includes an electrically conductive tissue engaging surface configured to connect to an electrosurgical energy source, and at least one of the jaw members includes two blade channels defined therein and extending therealong and a feed in member selectively positioned between the two blade channels. The end effector further includes a cutting blade that is translatable such that selective positioning of the feed in member enables the cutting blade to selectively enter into at least one of the two blade channels.
