Surface mapping and visualizing ablation system
Visualization and ablation systems and catheters. The systems can capture a plurality of different 2D images of the patient's anatomy adjacent an expandable member, each of which visualizes at least one part of the patient that is in contact with the expandable membrane, tag each of the plurality of different 2D images with information indicative of the position and orientation of a locational element when each of the plurality of different 2D images was captured, create a patient map, wherein creating the patient map comprises placing each of the plurality of different 2D images at the corresponding tagged position and orientation into a 3D space, and display the patient map.
INTRAVASCULAR BALLOON WITH SLIDABLE CENTRAL IRRIGATION TUBE
A balloon catheter has a central tube that is configured to both structurally support and inflate a balloon membrane. The central tube has a lumen and sidewall inflation ports that provide a path for inflating the balloon. The lumen of the central tube is obstructed by a distal end piece, nose piece, or other structure to prevent fluid from exiting a distal end of the central tube. The central tube is configured such that, during inflation, inflation media is allowed to pass through an elongated shaft of the catheter, into a proximal open end of the central tube, and through the inflation ports into the balloon. The central tube can slide longitudinally in relation to the shaft to longitudinally elongate and/or truncate the balloon.
BALLOON CATHETER WITH MICROPOROUS PORTION
A catheter for ablation including a catheter shaft, a balloon at a distal end of the catheter shaft, and a microporous portion. The balloon is configured to support conductors and electrodes and contain a fluid. The microporous portion is coupled to the balloon to allow the fluid to flow out of the balloon and includes a plurality of apertures configured to prevent large air bubbles from exiting the balloon.
ELECTROPORATION FOR OBESITY OR DIABETES TREATMENT
Endolumenal devices and methods can be used for the treatment of health conditions including obesity and diabetes. In some embodiments, the methods and systems provided herein can cause weight loss or control diabetes by reducing the caloric absorption of an individual. For example, this document provides several devices and methods for treating obesity and diabetes by using electroporation to modulate the duodenal mucosa. In addition, this document provides devices and methods for bypassing portions of the gastrointestinal tract to reduce nutritional uptake.
CATHETER WITH DEFORMABLE ELECTRODE
Ablation systems of the present disclosure facilitate the safe formation of wide and deep lesions. For example, ablation systems of the present disclosure can allow for the flow of irrigation fluid and blood through an expandable ablation electrode, resulting in efficient and effective cooling of the ablation electrode as the ablation electrode delivers energy at a treatment site of the patient. Additionally, or alternatively, ablation systems of the present disclosure can include a deformable ablation electrode and a plurality of sensors that, in cooperation, sense the deformation of the ablation electrode, to provide a robust indication of the extent and direction of contact between the ablation electrode and tissue at a treatment site.
EXPANDABLE ELECTROPORATION DEVICES AND METHODS OF USE
A medical system includes a shaft having a proximal end and a distal end, a balloon attached to the distal end of the shaft, the balloon movable between an expanded state and a deflated state where a maximum diameter of the balloon is greater in the expanded state than in the deflated state, and an electrode is attached to the shaft where a portion of the balloon includes a plurality of apertures fluidly connecting an interior of the balloon to an exterior of the balloon.
ELECTROSURGICAL SYSTEM
An electrosurgical system includes a radiofrequency (RF) generator having a controller configured to detect an occurrence of a vaporization point of target tissue and a vaporization duration between commencement of delivery of the RF energy and the occurrence of the vaporization point. The controller can apply the vaporization duration to adjust a parameter during subsequent electrode activation, such as RF power level, an electrode activation sequence, a distance between activated electrodes, and a number of activated electrodes. The controller can apply the vaporization duration to determine if whether a predetermined depth of effect has been reached for use in subsequent parameter adjustments.
ABLATION OF A HARD-TO-ACCESS REGION
An apparatus includes a shaft and an inflatable balloon coupled to a distal end of the shaft. The balloon includes a proximal portion that is electrically-conducting over at least half of a proximal-portion circumference of the proximal portion, a distal portion that is electrically-conducting over at least half of a distal-portion circumference of the distal portion, and an electrically-insulating middle portion that insulates the proximal portion from the distal portion. Other embodiments are also described.
PRESSURE RELIEF FEATURE FOR IRRIGATED RF BALLOON CATHETER
An apparatus includes a catheter shaft assembly and an end effector positioned at a distal end of the catheter shaft assembly. The end effector includes a balloon, one or more electrodes on the balloon, and a tip assembly at a distal end of the balloon. The balloon defines an interior configured to receive a fluid to inflate the balloon. The balloon is sized and configured to fit within a cardiovascular anatomical structure. The tip assembly includes a pressure relief valve that is configured to transition between a sealing state and a pressure-relieving state. In the sealing state, the pressure relief valve is configured to prevent fluid from leaking out from the interior of the balloon via the pressure relief valve. In the pressure-relieving state, the pressure relief valve is configured to provide a path for fluid to leak from the interior of the balloon via the pressure relief valve.
METHODS AND SYSTEMS FOR TREATING DIABETES AND RELATED DISEASES AND DISORDERS
Systems, device and methods treat target tissue to provide a therapeutic benefit to the patient. A tissue treatment device comprises a tissue treatment element constructed and arranged to treat target tissue, such as duodenal mucosa tissue.
