A humidifier for a fuel cell is provided. The humidifier includes a membrane having a humidifying membrane, a first cap coupled to a first side of the membrane to feed supply air into the humidifying membrane, and a second cap coupled to a second side of the membrane to release humidified supply air. An exhaust air inlet is coupled to the second side of the membrane to inject exhaust air from a fuel cell stack into the membrane, and an exhaust air outlet coupled to the first side of the membrane to release dehumidified exhaust air to an exhaust line. The first cap includes a supply air inflow passage and a variable member that has at least a portion capable of entering the supply air inflow passage. The variable member is moved in an inward direction or in an outward direction based on pressure inside the supply air inflow passage.

Disclosed are a fuel cell system capable of maintaining hydrogen density of the exhaust gas discharged from the fuel cell system at a level below the tolerance limit so that any fears about fire and/or explosion can be dispelled and the safety of the system can be remarkably improved, and a humidifier therefor. The fuel cell system of the present invention comprises a fuel cell stack; and a humidifier configured to (i) humidify an air supplied from outside by means of an off-gas discharged from the fuel cell stack and (ii) supply the humidified air to the fuel cell stack, wherein the off-gas is mixed with at least a portion of the humidified air in the humidifier.

An exhaust gas inlet is coupled to the membrane module and provides an exhaust gas discharged from the stack and an exhaust gas outlet is coupled to the membrane module and discharges a dehumidified exhaust gas, which passes through the membrane module, to an exhaust system. A valve provides selective communication between a first region, where the supply air flows, including the first and second caps and a second region, where the exhaust gas flows, including the exhaust gas inlet and the exhaust gas outlet.

The fuel cell humidifier of the present invention comprises a humidifying module and caps coupled to both ends of the humidifying module, respectively, wherein: the humidifying module includes a mid-case, a plurality of hollow fiber membranes in the mid-case, a fixed layer in which the ends of the hollow fiber membranes are potted, and a composite gasket having a groove into which the end of the mid-case is fitted; the composite gasket includes an inner body, an outer body, and a connecting body provided therebetween and formed of a first material; and at least a portion of the inner body is adhered to the fixed layer and is formed of a second material that is different from the first material.
