An envelope tracking transceiver dynamically adjusts envelope tracking parameters to achieve the desired tradeoff between noise performance and power efficiency. When higher levels of noise are acceptable, the envelope tracking transceiver dynamically adjusts transmitter parameters to achieve better power efficiency while sacrificing noise performance. When lower levels of noise are desired, the envelope tracking transceiver dynamically adjusts parameters to achieve better noise performance while sacrificing efficiency.

POWER CONTROL METHOD, DEVICE AND COMMUNICATION TERMINAL FOR IMPROVING POWER AMPLIFIER SWITCH SPECTRUM

A power control method and device for improving radio-frequency power amplifier (RF PA) switch spectrum, the method comprising the following steps: (a) detecting the gate voltage and drain voltage, or the gate voltage and supply voltage (vdd) of a pass element (105) to obtain the saturation information of the pass element (105); (b) if the saturation information indicates that the pass element (105) is about to leave the saturation working area, shunting the drain current of the pass element (105) to the error amplifier (102) to reduce the drain output voltage, thus reducing the variation of the output voltage, preventing the output voltage from quickly approaching the supply voltage (vdd), maintaining the saturation of the pass element (105), and improving the switch spectrum characteristics of RF PA.

Frequency-division-coordinated automatic power control for near-field communication

Techniques are described for frequency-division-coordination of automatic power control (APC) in a transceiver of a near-field reader. Such frequency-division-coordinated APC (FDC-APC) can enable continuous APC updates concurrent with communication frames to achieve field strength specifications without conventional degradations in communication reliability. For example, a transceiver implements a FDC-APC loop that received a detuning signal from signals received and/or transmitted over a near-field communication link, generates an error signal by comparing the detuning signal with a reference detuning level, and updates a power control signal according to an update frequency (e.g., corresponding to a APC loop bandwidth) that is a function of at least a filter frequency profile and is out-of-band with respect to a modulation frequency band. Modulated signals can be transmitted over the near-field communication link according to variable power settings controlled to the power control signal.

An RF PA system that generates its own local characterization information. The RF PA system includes a PA to generate a RF output signal from a RF input signal, the PA powered by a supply voltage. A characterization block generates characterization information corresponding to a relationship between the supply voltage and performance (e.g., gain, power efficiency, distortion, receive band noise) of the RF PA system for a plurality of levels of one or more operating conditions (e.g., temperature, operating frequency, modulation format, antennae mismatch, etc.) of the RF PA system. An amplitude estimator block estimates an amplitude of the RF input signal. A supply control block generates a supply voltage control signal for controlling the supply voltage based on the characterization information and the amplitude of the RF input signal.
