METHOD OF COMPRESSING TISSUE WITHIN A STAPLING DEVICE AND SIMULTANEOUSLY DISPLAYING THE LOCATION OF THE TISSUE WITHIN THE JAWS
A method of compressing tissue during a surgical procedure is disclosed. The method comprises obtaining a surgical instrument comprising an end effector, wherein the end effector comprises a first jaw and a second jaw, establishing a communication pathway between the surgical instrument and a surgical hub, and inserting the surgical instrument into a surgical site. The method further comprises compressing tissue between the first jaw and the second jaw, determining a location of the compressed tissue with respect to at least one of the first jaw and the second jaw, communicating the determined location of the compressed tissue to the surgical hub, and displaying the determined location of the compressed tissue on a visual feedback device.
RESISTIVE COATING DEVICE AND METHOD
Electrosurgical devices are shown with a coated electrode. Electrosurgical devices and methods of use are shown to provide a higher concentration of energy at different resistance regions within a coating. Electrosurgical devices and methods of use are also shown to utilize heat in an electrode contained by a thermally insulative coating to provide a second tissue modification.
Articulation mechanisms for surgical instruments such as for use in robotic surgical systems
An articulation assembly, surgical instrument including the same, and robotic surgical system including the same. The articulation assembly includes a lead screw assembly including a lead screw and a collar operably engaged about the lead screw such that rotation of the lead screw translates the collar about the lead screw. The lead screw defines a proximal input end rotatably received within a first base assembly and a distal dock end rotatably received within a second base assembly. An articulation cable is operably coupled to the collar such that movement of the collar about the lead screw tensions or de-tensions the articulation cable. A set screw is threadingly engaged within the second base assembly and operably coupled to the distal dock end of the lead screw such that proximal rotational driving of the set screw urges the lead screw proximally, thereby urging the collar proximally to tension the articulation cable.
ARTICULATION SYSTEM FOR SURGICAL INSTRUMENT
A surgical instrument assembly is disclosed. The surgical instrument assembly comprises a shaft, an end effector, and a drive member configured to actuate a function of the end effector. The surgical instrument assembly further comprises an articulation member configured to be actuated to articulate the end effector and an articulation region, wherein the articulation member is configured to articulate the end effector relative to the shaft by way of the articulation region, wherein the drive member extends through the shaft, the articulation region, and the end effector. The articulation region comprises an articulation support pivot positioned within the articulation region, wherein the articulation member is coupled to the articulation support pivot, wherein the articulation member is actuatable to rotate the articulation support pivot, and wherein the drive member extends through the articulation support pivot.
Device for generating a cold atmospheric pressure plasma
The invention relates to a device for producing a cold atmospheric pressure plasma for the treatment of human and/or animal surfaces, comprising a flexible, planar multilayer system with a side facing the surface to be treated and a side facing away from the surface to be treated, wherein the multilayer system comprises the following layers, namely a first electrode layer on the facing away side of the multilayer system, second electrode layer on the facing side of the multilayer system, wherein the electrode layer has a plurality of recesses or is formed in a grid-like or meander-shaped fashion, a dielectric layer arranged between the first electrode layer and the second electrode layer, and a spacer layer arranged adjacent the second electrode layer on the facing side of the multilayer system. In addition, the invention relates to a cable, a generator unit for providing a high voltage, and a system.
POWER CONTROL ARRANGEMENTS FOR SURGICAL INSTRUMENTS AND BATTERIES
Various embodiments are directed to battery unit for use with surgical instruments. The battery units may comprise a plurality of cells and include a translatable discharge drain. When attached to the surgical instrument, the discharge drain may electrically connect an anode of the battery unit to a cathode of the battery unit, for example, via a resistive element in order to drain the battery unit.
TREATMENT TOOL AND TREATMENT TOOL ASSEMBLY METHOD
A treatment tool includes: a pair of grippers configured to grip living tissue, at least one of the pair of grippers being configured in an openable and closable manner; a transmission portion connected to the at least one of the pair of grippers, the transmission portion being configured to move forward and backward along a first direction to open and close the pair of grippers; an operating portion configured to receive user operation for gripping the living tissue; an elastic body configured to transmit, to the transmission portion, an operating force applied to the operating portion by the user operation while being compressively deformed in accordance with the operating force; and an adjustment mechanism configured to adjust an amount of compressive deformation of the elastic body when the user operation is performed on the operating portion, to thereby adjust a gripping force of the pair of grippers.
