AUTOMATED, SELECTABLE, SOFT TISSUE EXCISION BIOPSY DEVICES AND METHODS
An excisional biopsy and delivery device may comprise one or more rotating, penetrating and cutting rod elements. The rod elements may be configured to advance from a stored and confined first position and rotate about an axis, while being simultaneously revolved about a central axis. The rod elements may then assume a second released and expanded configuration that is operative to cut around and surround target tissue. In this manner, the rod elements are operative to move through the surrounding tissue to create a volume of revolution and to sever and capture the target tissue contained within the volume of revolution from the surrounding tissue. The severed and captured volume of revolution containing the target issue may then be removed.
FORCEPS WITH TWO-PART DRIVE BAR
A forceps having a first jaw and a second jaw, where at least one of the first and second jaws is capable of moving between an open position and a closed positions. The forceps including an inner shaft located within an outer shaft and extending along the longitudinal axis, and a drive bar coupled to and extending distally from the inner shaft. The drive bar including a pair of drive bar struts extending from a distal portion of the inner shaft and positioned laterally inward of at least one of first and second set of flanges of the first and second jaws. A drive pin is securable to the pair of drive bar struts and the drive bar is translatable within the outer shaft to translate the drive pin to move the first jaw and/or the second jaw between open and closed positions.
SURGICAL DEVICE HAVING CONSTRAINED ELECTRODE AND METHOD OF USE
A tissue resecting device includes an elongated shaft having a central axis, a distal end, and a proximal end. A ceramic or other housing is mounted at the distal end of the shaft and has a tissue-receiving window. A movable electrode is configured to be rotationally oscillated or otherwise moved across the window. In one instance, the rotatable moveable electrode may have a dogleg configuration with a free end constrained within an arcuate slot formed near the window. In another instance, the movable electrode may have a U-shaped configuration with a distal end coupled to a pivot in the housing which is aligned with a rotational drive member.
ARTHROSCOPIC DEVICES AND METHODS
A fluid management system includes a pump connectable to a fluid source. An inflow line removably connects to a cannula for delivering a fluid flow from the pump into a surgical site, such as a joint cavity. A flow pressure sensor is coupled to measure flow pressure in the inflow line and produce a measured pressure value, A controller is connected to the pump and the flow pressure sensor, and the controller maintains a pressure set point by controlling a pump speed based on a backpressure-adjusted pressure value calculated by subtracting a backpressure value selected from a backpressure table from the measured pressure value. The BAPV is monitored to determine whether the BAPV deviates outside an initial BAPV range, and corrective measure are taken should such deviations occur.
Surgical Instruments with Selectively Rotating Handles
This disclosure relates to surgical instruments with selectively rotating handles. In certain aspects, the surgical device includes a conduit having a longitudinal axis and configured to extend into a body lumen, and a handle coupled to the conduit and configured to selectively rotate relative to the conduit. The handle is coupled to the conduit by a connection including a clutch mechanism, and the handle is configured to rotate in response to a user activation of the clutch mechanism.
ARTHROSCOPIC DEVICES AND METHODS
An arthroscopic or other surgical system includes a handpiece and a probe. The handpiece carries a motor drive, and the probe has a proximal hub and an elongate shaft which extends about a longitudinal axis to a working end of the probe. The hub is configured for detachably coupling to the handpiece, and the motor drive is configured to couple to a rotating drive coupling in the hub when the hub is coupled to the handpiece. A first magnetic component is carried by the hub, and a second magnetic component is coupled to rotate with the rotating drive coupling.
SURGICAL DEVICE HAVING AXIALLY RECIPROCATING ELECTRODE ASSEMBLY AND METHODS FOR TREATING PROSTATE
A tissue resecting device includes a handle, a shaft assembly movably attached to the handle, a housing secured to a distal end of the shaft, and an electrode. The electrode is disposed in the housing to move across a window, and at least one motor in the handle both reciprocates the shaft assembly relative to the handle and drives the electrode across the window.
RESECTOSCOPE HAVING AN ELECTRODE INSTRUMENT IN THE OUTER SHAFT
A resectoscope for endoscopic surgery, having a tubular shaft which includes an elongated sheath tube, and an irrigation tube arranged in the sheath tube for supplying irrigation fluid, as well as a rod-shaped lens and an electrode instrument, characterized in that the lens and the electrode instrument are arranged between the outer wall of the irrigation tube and the inner wall of the sheath tube. In addition, an electrosurgical system including the resectoscope and an irrigation fluid supply device.
Fixed position RF electrode
In one aspect, a fixed position RF electrode for conducting surgical procedures, includes a main device body detachably connectable to an RF generating system, a first polarized conductor and a second oppositely polarized conductor, a bipolar electrical conduit passing through the main device body that passes RF energy from the RF generating system to the first polarized conductor and the second oppositely polarized conductor, and a bipolar electrode for contacting a surgically operative material.
