The invention concerns a multifunctional electrosurgical device for treating biological tissues comprising a first member and a second member linked by a hinge allowing the members to be moved together and apart from each other; the first member comprising, at the front end of same, a first electrode for forming a first electrical contact with the tissues and the second member comprising, at the front end of same, a second electrode for forming a second electrical contact with the tissues. The first electrode has a concave cross-section, capable of partially housing the second electrode and of making the second electrode protrude from the first electrode when the two members are moved together. The device is remarkable in that the electrodes are configured to allow the formation of the first electrical contact on the outer surface of the first electrode and the formation of the second electrical contact on the protruding part of the second electrode.

The bead(s) may comprise an at least substantially electrically non-conductive surface and may define, at least in part, both a distally-facing and a proximally-facing recess. At least one electrically conductive lysing member configured to deliver electrosurgical energy may be positioned adjacent to the at least one bead, the at least one lysing member defining at least one lysing segment extending within a recess at least partially defined by the at least one bead.

FLEXIBLE CIRCUITS FOR ELECTROSURGICAL INSTRUMENT

The disclosure provides a method of manufacturing a flexible circuit electrode assembly and an apparatus manufactured by said method. According to the method, an electrically conductive sheet is laminated to an electrically insulative sheet. An electrode is formed on the electrically conductive sheet. An electrically insulative layer is formed on a tissue contacting surface of the electrode. The individual electrodes are separated from the laminated electrically insulative sheet and the electrically conductive sheet. In another method, a flexible circuit is vacuum formed to create a desired profile. The vacuum formed flexible circuit is trimmed. The trimmed vacuum formed flexible circuit is attached to a jaw member of a clamp jaw assembly.

TREATMENT SYSTEM AND TREATMENT TOOL

A treatment system comprises a power supply device and a treatment tool configured to communicate electrically with the power supply device so as to perform an operation on a treatment target. The treatment tool includes a sheath and an end effector configured to detachably attach to the sheath and being capable of bending with respect to the sheath. The end effector includes an electric element used to apply a treatment energy to the treatment target using an electric energy. The power supply device includes a processor. The processor sets to increase an output of the electric energy to be supplied to the electric element at in a second state. The sheath and the end effector are bent at a predetermined angle with respect to one another, compared with a first state where the sheath and the end effector are disposed straight in line with one another.

BIPOLAR SURGICAL INSTRUMENT

A bipolar forceps includes a mechanical forceps including first and second shafts each having a jaw member extending from a distal end thereof and a handle disposed at a proximal end thereof for effecting movement of the jaw members relative to one another about a pivot. A disposable housing is configured to releasably couple to at least one of the shafts and an electrode assembly is configured to releasably couple to the disposable housing. The electrode assembly includes electrodes releasably coupleable to the jaw members. At least one of the electrodes includes a knife channel configured to receive a knife blade therethrough to cut tissue grasped between the jaw members. An actuation mechanism is configured to selectively advance the knife blade through the knife channel to cut tissue.

Electrode wiping surgical device

Aspects of the present disclosure include a surgical device comprising electrodes on the sides of an end of an effector to aide in sealing during various surgical procedures, such as a liver resection. During a sealing procedure, the surgeon may wipe the surgical site with the end effector, causing the electrodes to touch the fractured area. Electrosurgical energy may be applied to the electrodes during the wiping, causing coagulation of smaller vessels, such as tiny blood vessels and bile ducts in the parenchyma of the liver. In some cases, due to the nature of some smaller vessels, electrosurgical energy should be delicately applied to cause sealing but to avoid overly damaging the remaining tissue. In some embodiments, the thin design of the electrodes allows for an appropriate amount of electrosurgical energy to be applied to the fractured area.
