A broadcast signal receiver is disclosed. A broadcast signal receiver according to an embodiment of the present invention comprises a synchronization & demodulation module performing signal detection and OFDM demodulation on a received broadcast signal; a frame parsing & deinterleaving module performing parsing and deinterleaving of a signal frame of the broadcast signal; a demapping & decoding module performing conversion of data of at least one Physical Layer Pipe (PLP) of the broadcast signal into the bit domain and FEC decoding of the converted PLP data; and an output processing module outputting a data stream by receiving the at least one PLP data.

Aspects of the present disclosure provide techniques for design of synchronization signals for narrowband operation and other clean-slate, OFDM based systems such as enhanced component carrier (eCC) systems. An example method is provided for operations which may be performed by a BS to generate and transmit a dual-layer PSS, and correspondingly, techniques for a UE to detect the dual-layer PSS. The PSS may be generated utilizing a binary code cover and at least one sequence applied to a number of symbols within one or more subframes of a frame.

TECHNIQUES FOR TRANSMITTING DEMODULATION REFERENCE SIGNALS USING NONCOHERENT MODULATION

Techniques for wireless communications are described. A demodulation reference signal generated using user information and a noncoherent modulation technique may be communicated between wireless devices. A data sequence may be extracted from the demodulation reference signal based on demodulating the demodulation reference signal using the noncoherent modulation technique and decoding the demodulation reference signal. The data sequence may be used to reconstruct a version of the demodulation reference signal used to descramble a received version of the demodulation reference signal. The descrambled demodulation reference signal may be used to estimate a data channel between a transmitting device and a receiving device.

Synchronization signal design for narrowband Internet of Things communications

A synchronization signal design is described for narrowband Internet of Things Communications. The synchronization signals facilitate time and frequency synchronization between an eNB and UEs. In one example, operations include generating an NB-Iot Secondary Synchronization Signal (N-SSS) using a Zadoff-Chu (ZC) sequence, scrambling the ZC sequence using a scrambling sequence, and transmitting the resulting scrambled NB-Iot Secondary Synchronization Signal (N-SSS) by the eNB in a periodic manner, wherein, the eNB has a cell identifier and the cell is identified by a combination of the root of the ZC sequence and the scrambling sequence.

A synchronization signal block (SSB) including a primary synchronization signal (PSS), a secondary synchronization signal (SSS), a physical broadcast channel (PBCH) is transmitted using first and second beams. One or more symbols adjoining the first and second synchronization signals are configured to accommodate a beam switching time. At least one signal indicates a beam index for the first beam transmitting the first synchronization signal, and the beam index for the second beam transmitting the second synchronization signal is either signaled or determined based on a predetermined relationship between a resource for the first synchronization signal and a resource for the second synchronization signal. The beam indices may comprise first and second numbers of bits and/or may be jointly encoded. The beam indices may be indicated by one of the PSS, the SSS, the PBCH, a demodulation reference signal (DMRS), or a synchronization or reference signal designated for that purpose.

Signaling methods and apparatus

A reception apparatus including a tuner and circuitry is provided. The tuner is configured to receive a transmission frame including a bootstrap portion, a preamble portion, and a payload portion. The circuitry is configured to extract first signaling information from the bootstrap portion to decode the preamble portion, and extract second signaling information from the preamble portion to decode the payload portion. The bootstrap portion includes at least one of a first symbol used for synchronization, a second symbol that signals emergency alert information, or a third symbol that signals the first signaling information.
