Electronic devices having displays with curved surfaces and image transport layers
An electronic device may have a display overlapped by a cover layer. Portions of the surface of the display and cover layer may have curved profiles. The display may include a flexible substrate and may have bent edge portions protruding from a central region. Gaps may be formed between regions of pixels on a common substrate or between separate display panels. An image transport layer formed from a coherent fiber bundle or a layer of Anderson localization material configured to exhibit two-dimensional transverse Anderson localization of light may have an input surface that receives an image from adjacent display pixels and an output surface on which the image is displayed. The output surface may have a curved profile and may exhibit compound curvature. The input surface may have a profile with curved portions or other shapes. Image transport layers can be used to cover gaps between sets of pixels.
GLASS DEVICE HOUSINGS
An electronic device may have a glass housing structures. The glass housing structures may be used to cover a display and other internal electronic device components. The glass housing structure may have multiple glass pieces that are joined using a glass fusing process. A peripheral glass member may be fused along the edge of a planar glass member to enhance the thickness of the edge. A rounded edge feature may be formed by machining the thickened edge. Raised fused glass features may surround openings in the planar glass member. Multiple planar glass members may be fused together to form a five-sided box in which electronic components may be mounted. Raised support structure ribs may be formed by fusing glass structures to a planar glass member. Opaque masking material and colored glass may be used to create portions of the glass housing structures that hide internal device components from view.

An electronic device is disclosed, including a first plate including a planar area oriented in a first direction, and a curved area extending from at least a portion of an edge of the planar area, a second plate oriented in a second direction opposite the first direction, the first plate and second plate defining an inner space, a support member disposed between the first plate and the second plate so as to surround the inner space, and a first adhesive member disposed between the curved area of the first plate and the support member, wherein the first adhesive member includes: a first adhesive layer attached to at least a portion of the curved area of the first plate, and is activated by heat, and a second adhesive layer attached to at least a portion of the support member.
Electronic Devices With Sidewall Displays
Electronic devices may be provided that contain flexible displays that are bent to form displays on multiple surfaces of the devices. Bent flexible displays may be bent to form front side displays and edge displays. Edge displays may be separated from front side displays or from other edge displays using patterned housing members, printed or painted masks, or by selectively activating and inactivating display pixels associated with the flexible display. Edge displays may alternately function as virtual buttons, virtual switches, or informational displays that are supplemental to front side displays. Virtual buttons may include transparent button members, lenses, haptic feedback components, audio feedback components, or other components for providing feedback to a user when virtual buttons are activated.
