Measuring and analyzing data to generate recommendations associated with a digital subscription line (DSL)
According to examples, a system for measuring and analyzing data to generate recommendations associated with a digital subscription line (DSL). Data associated with a DSL is measured according to one or more performance counters. The data is analyzed with respect to one or more thresholds and an anomalous performance event is determined. Also, a recommendation with respect to an performance issue associated with the anomalous performance event is provided.
Line fault localisation
The invention relates to a method of managing a digital subscriber line, in particular for identifying the location of weather related faults. The invention continuously measures the signal to noise (SNR) margin on the DSL line as well as measurements from weather related sensors, such as moisture and wind sensors, which each have an associated geographical location. The SNR margin measures are compared to predetermined conditions based on SNR margin characteristics associated with a population of good lines. If the SNR margin measures fail to meet the predetermined conditions, the SNR measures are also compared to the weather sensor measurements over a day or number of days. If there is a correlation between the SNR margin measures and at least one of the sensors, then location of the fault is identified as the location of the sensor having the strongest correlation with the SNR measures.
Management center for communication system customer premises equipment
Described are systems and methods for a Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) customer premises equipment (CPE) Management Center (CMC). In one embodiment, the CMC includes a communications interface to receive information from the CPE device regarding operation of the CPE device. The received information is analyzed and a command signal generation module generates a corresponding command signal for transmission to the at least one CPE device to modify the CPE device operation based on the analysis results in a manner which either enhances CPE device performance, for example increasing data rate, or improves line stability, for example reducing CPE error rate.
DETECTING MODEM POWER STATE CHANGE
A method of determining when there has been a change in the modem power state of a modem connected to a digital subscriber line. An Uncalibrated Echo Response (UER) trace is obtained from the digital subscriber line by running a Single Ended Line Test (SELT) on the line. This UER trace is compared to a historical (baseline) UER trace from the same line. A difference in the two traces in a higher frequency range (for example, DS3 for a VDSL line), is indicative of a possible modem power state change.
Digital subscriber line profile selection method and apparatus
An Initial Profile Application Apparatus (IPAA) is operable to apply an initial profile to a modem pair connection system, the modem pair connection system comprising a first modem, a corresponding second modem and a metallic wire connection, wherein the first and second modems are operable to establish a data connection between themselves over the metallic wire connection. The IPAA comprises: a receiver; an evaluator; a line database; a comparator; a determiner; and an applicator.

SYSTEMS, METHODS, AND STORAGE MEDIA FOR TESTING LOCAL LOOPS OF TELECOMMUNICATIONS NETWORKS
Automatic testing/analysis of local loops of telecommunications networks includes obtaining bits-per-tone data for a local loop of a telecommunications network and generating a bit value string from the bits-per-tone data. The bit value string is then analyzed to determine whether it includes a bit pattern indicative of an impairment of the local loop. Further approaches for automatically testing local loops of telecommunications networks include obtaining attenuation data for multiple tones carried by the local loop and determining whether the attenuation data falls below thresholds for providing a service using the local loop.

Methods and systems for reducing crosstalk using sequential non-linear vectoring
In one example embodiment, a method includes determining a first set of first lines and a second set of second lines in a system, obtaining input signals to be transmitted over the first set of first lines and the second set of second lines, determining a vectoring matrix, processing, within the first set, the incoming signals for the first lines in parallel based on the vectoring matrix, processing, within the second set, the input signals for the second lines in parallel based on the vectoring matrix and processing the first set and the second set sequentially based on the vectoring matrix, the processing the second set being based on at least a portion of the processing the incoming signals for the first lines.
SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR ESTABLISHING A DIAGNOSTIC TRANSMISSION MODE AND COMMUNICATING OVER THE SAME
Upon detection of a trigger, such as the exceeding of an error threshold or the direction of a user, a diagnostic link system enters a diagnostic information transmission mode. This diagnostic information transmission mode allows for two modems to exchange diagnostic and/or test information that may not otherwise be exchangeable during normal communication. The diagnostic information transmission mode is initiated by transmitting an initiate diagnostic link mode message to a receiving modem accompanied by a cyclic redundancy check (CRC). The receiving modem determines, based on the CRC, if a robust communications channel is present. If a robust communications channel is present, the two modems can initiate exchange of the diagnostic and/or test information. Otherwise, the transmission power of the transmitting modem is increased and the initiate diagnostic link mode message re-transmitted to the receiving modem until the CRC is determined to be correct.
