A method to calibrate a printer in which printing of a first print job is controlled. A target color is obtained from a second print job that is to be printed subsequent to the first print job. Printing of the target color obtained from the second print job is controlled while controlling printing of the first print job. An image of the printed target color is received. The printer is calibrated using the printed target color in the received image and the target color obtained from the second print job.

A lighting device (23) irradiates a web under conveyance with light. The lighting device includes a light source (43), and an irradiation port (61) configured to open linearly in a widthwise direction of the web at an end portion facing the web. The irradiation port (61) is formed between first and second parallel portions (62b, 63b) where a first plate member (62) and a second plate member (63) parallelly face each other. The web under conveyance is irradiated with linear light. It is possible to provide a lighting device capable of irradiating only an inspection region of a sheet or a web with light.

One embodiment of the present disclosure is a printing apparatus including: a print head having a nozzle column including a plurality of nozzles through which ink is ejected; an acquiring unit configured to acquire a measurement value by reading a tone patch pattern printed by the print head; and a setting unit configured to set a printing characteristic based on the measurement value and a target value, and the printing apparatus further includes a determination unit configured to determine whether or not reading has been performed normally based on a variation amount calculated by using the measurement value.

In a printing apparatus, a colorimeter is provided for performing imaging calibration on an inline scanner for inspecting a printed image. During a printing operation, the inline scanner captures a test pattern image formed on paper and thereby obtains calibration imaging data, the colorimeter performs color measurement on the test pattern image and thereby obtains calibration colorimetric data, both data are used to update a correction factor LUT for imaging calibration, and the correction factor LUT is used to perform imaging calibration on the inline scanner.

An image reading device includes: a scanner configured to read an image formed on a sheet of paper; a first background member configured to reflect light emitted from the scanner; a colorimeter configured to take a color measurement of the image; a second background member configured to reflect light emitted from the colorimeter; a guide member configured to guide the sheet of paper passing between the colorimeter and the second background member; and a regulating member configured to regulate movement of the sheet of paper, wherein the regulating member includes: a first member including a rolling member; a second member including a rolling member; and a pressing member configured to press the first member and the second member against the guide member, and the pressing member is disposed in a position offset from axes of the first member and the second member.

A color-measuring apparatus includes an imaging unit that images a test pattern and obtains image information of the test pattern, a reference color-measuring unit that color-measures the test pattern and obtains a reference color measurement value of the test pattern, and an amending unit that obtains the color measured result of the test pattern in a narrow range in at least one direction in comparison with a measuring range for obtaining the reference color measurement value by the reference color-measuring unit based on at least the image information and the reference color measurement value.

A printing apparatus comprises a printer engine and a sensor that performs color measuring of tone correction patches printed on a sheet, the patches including at least a set of first color tone correction patches and a set of second color tone correction patches. The printing apparatus controls to cause, when the tone correction patches are to be printed on sheets respectively having a predetermined size, the printer engine to print the sets of the first and second color tone correction patches on first and second sheets, respectively, and executes control such that, in a case where the first sheet and the second sheet are printed one after another, a color measurement result of the tone correction patches printed on the first sheet and the second sheet are used in correcting image data for printing.

The image forming apparatus according to an example includes a communication device to receive print data, a print engine including a plurality of photosensitive drums, and a processor to control the print engine to print the received print data on a plurality of printing papers, and to form a predetermined pattern for color registration in an inter-paper distance section between two of the plurality of printing papers on a paper feeding path.
