A method of controlling a digital television, the method includes displaying content or application being executed on a display screen of the digital television, receiving a first signal requesting a menu to be displayed, and displaying the requested menu, overlaid on the display screen, wherein the menu includes a first part and a second part, wherein the first part displays at least one menu item corresponding to previously displayed content or previously executed application, and wherein the second part displays at least one menu item corresponding to content or an application executable in the digital television.

Systems and methods for facilitating caching of programming data are provided herein, including receiving two or more programming data portions, storing the respective programming data portions, managing access to a storage component or a communication component based on programming data portions stored within the storage component, merging programming data portions with a database, and generating a sleep signal based on a period of inactivity which exceeds an inactivity threshold. In one or more embodiments, caching of programming data may include determining a programming data set based on user profile data, parsing the programming data set into two or more programming data portions, converting respective programming data portions into a binary format, transmitting a first programming data portion of the respective programming data portions, and transmitting additional programming data portions of the respective programming data portions based on a sleep signal.

Provided is a system, method, and apparatus for creating a configuration for a control device. The method includes determining a plurality of devices controllable with the control device, wherein each device of the plurality of devices is associated with at least one device category, displaying a first set of device options corresponding to a first set of devices of the plurality of devices, displaying a second set of device options corresponding to a second set of devices of the plurality of devices, receiving a selection of a first device from the first set of device options and a second device from the second set of device options, associating the first device and the second device with a scene object, and in response to activation of the scene object via the control device, automatically generating a set of control signals configured to control the first device and the second device.

There is provided an image processing device including: a data storage unit that stores object identification data for identifying an object operable by a user and feature data indicating a feature of appearance of each object; an environment map storage unit that stores an environment map representing a position of one or more objects existing in a real space and generated based on an input image obtained by imaging the real space using an imaging device and the feature data stored in the data storage unit; and a selecting unit that selects at least one object recognized as being operable based on the object identification data, out of the objects included in the environment map stored in the environment map storage unit, as a candidate object being a possible operation target by a user.

Techniques are disclosed that can be implemented as a system configured for image matching-based pointing and/or selection from information presented in an image displayed by a projection device. A pointing device configured as described herein may be pointed at a target portion of an image displayed by a projection device and allowed to capture an image inclusive of that target portion. In turn, the captured image data may be compared with data pertaining to the original displayed image. The resultant pointing location data can be used to generate one or more pointing indicators within the original image, and the projection device may display the resultant annotated image on screen, in some cases in real time and/or with precision resolution of a single pixel. A subsequent user selection can be made based on the known location of the pointing indicator. The techniques provide for more native human-machine interaction than existing approaches.

A system comprising a remote video provider and a device; the device, capable of processing data and instructions executable by a processor, when executing the instructions, performs the steps of: streaming, from the remote video provider and over a communications network, a video; receiving, during a playing of the video, a request for information; pausing the playing of the video in response to the request for information; displaying information responsive to the request for information; and resuming, following a termination of the displaying of information, the playing of the video at a location in the video that (i) precedes a location at which the video was paused, and (ii) is responsive to a beginning of a video segment.

Exemplary embodiments are directed to an apparatus dedicated to controlling a specified multimedia device for viewing programming content. The apparatus has an input interface configured for capturing a fingerprint of a user. The apparatus also includes memory for storing a plurality of user identification files. Each user identification file including data associated with at least one reference fingerprint of a respective user. A processor compares the captured fingerprint with at least one reference fingerprint stored in memory, and generates a control signal based on a result of the comparison. The control signal can include user profile identifier associated with the captured fingerprint and command data for instructing the multimedia device to generate a customized or default user interface for the identified user to view or access programming content. The control signal is transmitted to a multimedia device.

Embodiments of the present disclosure present devices, methods, and computer readable medium for enabling controller device to control proprietary digital media players, network accessories, and virtual assistants, providing an overall improved user experience. The techniques disclosed herein reduce clutter because a single controller can control various different devices and accessories. The techniques discloses also can include identifying a change in the configuration information for the computing device. The technique for accessory control can include transmitting updated configuration information for the controller, the configuration information associating a function for the computing device with a user interface element value for the controller.

Imaging capabilities of a remote control are leveraged to automatically identify a remotely controllable device and program the remote control accordingly. The remote control uses its built-in image device to obtain an image of a remotely controllable device. The image is processed and compared to a database to determine the specific type of device. Other variations include information of a location of the remote control and/or a location of a controllable device to facilitate in determining and controlling a device.
