Remote control devices to interface with audience measurement meters are disclosed. An example remote control device to interface with an audience measurement meter includes an audience management controller to, responsive to a gender value input via a user interface of the remote control device, store the gender value, responsive to an age value input via the user interface of the remote control device, store the age value, generate a message including the gender value and age value, and a transmitter to transmit the message to the audience measurement meter, the message including a sequence of infrared codes.

A system and method whereby an user interface editing device is used to create a user interface for a controlling device, the created user interface including user interface elements that are associated with functional operations of a virtual equivalent of an appliance. After the created user interface is transferred to the controlling device, the virtual equivalent of an appliance is caused to be linked to an intended target appliance whereupon activation of those user interface elements of the graphical user interface that were associated with functional operations of the virtual equivalent of an appliance will cause the controlling device to transmit commands to control corresponding functional operations of the intended target appliance.

A telemedicine system including a cart that allows for two-way audio/video conferencing between patients or local care providers and remote care providers or family members. A set top/back box and system and method for providing a remote control device are disclosed. In one embodiment, one or more wireless transceivers are located within a housing, which also interconnectively includes television input/output, a processor, and memory. The set top/back box may establish a pairing with a programmable device, such as a proximate wireless-enabled interactive handheld device having a touch screen display, whereby formatted parallel audiovisual experience instructions, including virtual buttons, may be transmitted to the programmable device for display on the touch screen display to create an experience parallel to the experience on the television. The set top/back box receives and processes virtual remote control functionality input instructions from the programmable device to control amenities associated with the set top/back box.

For establishing cooperation among an external device 30, a video display device and a remote control terminal and to achieve cooperative operation among these devices that affords a high level of operability to a user with less burden, the video display device to which an external device and a remote control terminal that remotely operates the external device can be connected, comprising: a connection detection section configured to detect a connection of the external device to the video display device; a cooperation establishment section configured to generate a start signal for initiate an application software accepting an operation instruction to the external device on the remote control terminal when the connection detection section detects the connection of the external device; and a communication interface configured to transmit the start signal to the remote control terminal.

In one embodiment, a method includes receiving program content and data describing program content from a content source, and automatically identifying, based on user preferences of a first user, one or more relevant products or services displayed in the program content. Product-related metadata associated with the program content is identified. The product-related metadata including data relating to the one or more relevant products or services displayed in the program content. The program content is communicated to a display device for presentation to a first user in a first portion of the display device, and the product-related metadata is communicated to a second display device for presentation to a second user substantially simultaneously with the presentation of the program content in the first display device. A user commentary is received from the second device, the user commentary generated by the second user and associated with the program content or product-related metadata.

A television and system and method for providing a remote control device are disclosed. In one embodiment of the television, the television includes a processor, a memory, a tuner, a panel, and an audio driver therein in an interconnected architecture. The television may establish a pairing with a proximate wireless-enabled interactive programmable device, such as a proximate wireless-enabled interactive handheld device having a touch screen display, whereby formatted parallel audiovisual experience instructions, including virtual buttons, may be transmitted to the proximate wireless-enabled interactive programmable device for display on the touch screen display to create an experience parallel to the experience on the television. The television receives and processes virtual remote control functionality input instructions from the proximate wireless-enabled interactive programmable device to control amenities associated with the television.

An entertainment device provides multiple users with the ability to simultaneously select and place various still or video images or animations over a video transmission provided to a television from a cable box, antenna, video streaming device, or other video supply device for personal entertainment purposes. The image overlay can be provided in real-time or substantially in real-time, such as with minimal delay. The entertainment device may further provide the ability to overlay audio onto, or replace entirely, the audio signal supplied with the video signal. The entertainment device may be provided, for instance, as a stand-alone unit, or may be integrated into a cable box or other video supply device (i.e., dvd player, blu-ray player, cell phone, tablet, computer, streaming device, etc.).
