ADAPTIVE REMOTE CONTROL

A remote control that receives state information from an associated media device is disclosed. The remote control, in response to receiving data indicating that the media device is in a content state, may update an input assembly to indicate that the assembly may be used to perform a movement function. The remote control may instruct the media device to perform a movement function in response to a selection gesture, where the degree of movement is a single unit. In response to a swipe gesture, the remote control may instruct the media device to perform a linear movement with a greater degree of movement. Buttons and functions of the remote control may be further adapted in response to a menu-based state, or other states of the media device.

Multi-story visual experience

Techniques and apparatuses enabling multi-story visual experiences are described. These techniques and apparatuses enable a user to view multiple storylines through their view selections. By so doing, a user may enjoy either or both of the stories without sacrificing the storytelling experience or a user's ability to determine a manner in which to engage with the stories.

System and method for flexible configuration of a controlling device

A system and method whereby an user interface editing device is used to create a user interface for a controlling device, the created user interface including user interface elements that are associated with functional operations of a virtual equivalent of an appliance. After the created user interface is transferred to the controlling device, the virtual equivalent of an appliance is caused to be linked to an intended target appliance whereupon activation of those user interface elements of the graphical user interface that were associated with functional operations of the virtual equivalent of an appliance will cause the controlling device to transmit commands to control corresponding functional operations of the intended target appliance.

Method and apparatus for controlling video content on a display

A controller for controlling a display device that displays secondary digital content displayed in an overlay above a primary video stream. The controller includes a touch interface device, a processor, and a memory storing non-transitory instructions. These instructions, when executed, can include (i) detecting a first input gesture by a user on the touch interface device, (ii) in response to detecting the first input gesture, selecting an application for display on the display screen, (iii) detecting a second input gesture by the user on the touch interface device, (iv) in response to detecting the second input gesture, scrolling through a currently-displayed layer of the selected application displayed on the display screen, (v) detecting a third input gesture by the user on the touch interface device, and (vi) in response to detecting the third input gesture, scrolling between layers of the selected application in a simulated Z-space.

User interfaces for interacting with channels that provide content that plays in a media browsing application

In some embodiments, an electronic device presents a plurality of representations of content items that are available on a respective channel in response to successfully subscribing the respective channel. In some embodiments, an electronic device plays content that is provided by a channel in a unified media browsing application. In some embodiments, an electronic device presents information about subscribing to a channel based on content consumption activity of the user on the electronic device in accordance with some embodiments of the disclosure.

MULTI-PARTICIPANT LIVE COMMUNICATION USER INTERFACE

An electronic device is disclosed. The device can display a live video communication user interface of a live video communication application that includes participant affordances corresponding to participants. In response to detecting an input that corresponds to a request to initiate a process of starting a new live communication session, the device can: in accordance with the input corresponding to selection of the first participant affordance, initiate a process of starting a new live communication session that includes a group of three or more participants; and in accordance with the input corresponding to selection of the new session affordance, initiate a process for selecting two or more participants and start a new live communication session that includes a participant associated with the device and the selected participants.

TELEVISION AND SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR PROVIDING A REMOTE CONTROL DEVICE

A television and system and method for providing a remote control device are disclosed. In one embodiment of the television, the television includes a processor, a memory, a tuner, a panel, and an audio driver therein in an interconnected architecture. The television may establish a pairing with a proximate wireless-enabled interactive programmable device, such as a proximate wireless-enabled interactive handheld device having a touch screen display, whereby formatted parallel audiovisual experience instructions, including virtual buttons, may be transmitted to the proximate wireless-enabled interactive programmable device for display on the touch screen display to create an experience parallel to the experience on the television. The television receives and processes virtual remote control functionality input instructions from the proximate wireless-enabled interactive programmable device to control amenities associated with the television.

Recommending and activating scenes in a multimedia system are provided. The techniques of the present disclosure can allow the states of the components in the multimedia system to be captured in a scene. Once the scene has been saved, the scene can be activated at a later time. A controller device for recommending scenes by comparing the current state with states of components in saved scenes is also provided. The controller device can also determine if media is playing in a current scene, and activate a selected scene without playing the media content. Once the selected scene is activated, the media playing in the current scene can be switched, and the media playing in the selected scene can be played.

Systems and Methods for Remote Control of a Television

Systems and methods for personalized video display include providing an interface on the touch device, maintaining a layout template that includes a primary video display window and a user selectable information window, and sending the layout template to the television. The television can display the template layout and embedded content. Additionally, the touch device can detect gestures from a user and communicate instructions to the television based on the gesture input.
