Disclosed are ultrasonic and electrosurgical devices. The disclosed embodiments include a surgical instrument comprising a waveguide, and end effector and an electrical switch. The waveguide may comprise a proximal end and a distal end, wherein the proximal end is configured to couple to an ultrasonic transducer and one output of a radio frequency (RF) generator. The end effector may comprise an ultrasonic blade and a clamp arm coupled. The ultrasonic blade may be mechanically coupled to the distal end of the waveguide and electrically coupled to the waveguide. The clamp arm may comprise a movable jaw member electrically coupled to another output of the RF generator such that an electrical current can pass through the movable jaw member and the ultrasonic blade through tissue located between the movable jaw member and the ultrasonic blade. The electrical switch may be configured to electrically couple to the RF generator and the movable jaw member, wherein the switch is operable to cause the surgical instrument to deliver electrical current from the RF generator to the movable jaw member for a first period, and to cause the surgical instrument to deliver ultrasonic energy to the ultrasonic blade for a second period.
ENERGY TREATMENT DEVICE
An energy treatment device includes a sheath including a hollow portion, a fixed handle provided at a proximal end of the sheath, a probe provided in the hollow portion, a movable handle including a jaw having a recessed portion along a rotation axis of the movable handle extending in a direction orthogonal to the central axis, a metal member provided at a position including the rotation axis, and a preventing member which prevents the metal member from falling out from its position. The sheath extends along a central axis of the energy treatment device and includes an attaching portion by which the movable handle is attached to a position offset from the central axis, the metal member is provided around the rotation axis such that the jaw is rotatable with respect to the sheath, and the prevention member is fixed to the recessed portion.
TISSUE RESECTING INSTRUMENT
A tissue-resecting end effector assembly includes an outer shaft having a hub housing disposed about a proximal end portion thereof, an inner shaft rotatably disposed within the outer shaft and having a distal driver disposed about a proximal end portion thereof, a proximal driver, a retainer cap, and an RFID chip. The proximal driver is slidably coupled to the distal driver in fixed rotational orientation. The retainer cap is fixedly engaged with the hub housing, thereby fixing the retainer cap relative to the hub housing and the outer shaft. The retainer cap is configured to selectively lock the proximal driver in fixed rotational orientation, thereby selectively locking the inner shaft relative to the outer shaft. The RFID chip is disposed within a pocket of the retainer cap that is closed upon engagement of the retainer cap with the hub housing, thereby retaining the RFID chip therein.
SURGICAL BURR
A method includes processing a first material using a working part having a working device and a prevention device, and using the prevention device to simultaneously prevent damage to a second material adjacent the first material. A method of processing a first material includes arranging a prevention device in a first position to prevent a working part having a working device and the prevention device from processing first and second materials, and arranging the prevention device in a second position to allow the working device to process the first material while the prevention device simultaneously prevents damage to a second material adjacent the first material.
Surgical stapling device with rotary multi-turn retraction mechanism
A powered surgical device configured to clamp and fasten tissue is disclosed. The powered surgical device comprises a shaft, an articulation joint, a motor-driven flexible drive member movably supported in the shaft, an I-beam coupled to the motor-driven flexible drive member, and a housing. The shaft comprises a proximal end. The motor-driven flexible drive member passes through the articulation joint during a tissue clamping motion. The motor-driven flexible drive member is driven distally away from the proximal end of the shaft during the tissue clamping motion. The housing is coupled to the proximal end of the shaft. The housing comprises a rotary multi-turn unidirectional manually-operated retraction mechanism. A rotation of the rotary multi-turn unidirectional manually-operated retraction mechanism in a first direction is configured to retract the motor-driven flexible drive member proximally toward the proximal end of the shaft.
Surgical system comprising a display
A surgical instrument system is disclosed including a surgical instrument, an end effector, and a display. The end effector includes a distal end, a proximal connection portion configured to attach the end effector to the surgical instrument, a first jaw, a second jaw movable relative to the first jaw, and at least one sensor configured to detect an orientation of the second jaw. The second jaw is moveable between an open orientation, a partially-closed orientation, and a closed orientation. The display is configured to incrementally display discrete steps of partial closure of the second jaw.
Ultrasonic Surgical Handpiece Having a Thermal Diffuser
An ultrasonic surgical handpiece comprising a thermal diffuser that includes a thermal conductive layer and an electrical insulating layer. The thermal diffuser reduces hot spots that are objectionable to the user. The handpiece may also comprise an anti-rotation feature which distributes force of the metal horn applied to the polymer housing by increasing applied area under torque.
Endoscope, and endoscope system
An endoscope includes: a rigid distal structure portion; a rotational portion; an exterior member; a bearing opposed to the exterior member and recessed from an outer surface of the distal structure portion, the bearing being; and a preventing portion. The bearing is configured to receive and support the rotational shaft and to displace the rotational shaft from the distal structure portion by the exterior member being removed from the distal structure portion. The preventing portion provided on one of the rotational portion and the distal structure portion, and configured to prevent disengagement of the rotational portion by coming in contact with the other of the rotational portion and the distal structure portion when the rotational shaft is displaced from the bearing.
Treatment tool
A treatment tool includes an long member; a treatment portion rotatable about a longitudinal axis of the long member; a twisting wire one end of which is connected to the treatment portion, the other end extending toward a proximal end side of the long member; an operating portion, at the proximal end side, that includes a body fixed to the long member, and an operating member configured to rotate around and move along the axis; and a mechanism configured to couple the operating member with the wire and convert a rotation of the operating member into traction of the wire. The body includes a portion configured to come into contact with the operating member to prevent the rotation in a case where the operating member is urged in a direction toward a distal end side of the long member together with the mechanism by a restoring force of the wire.
Lockout mechanisms for surgical instruments
Surgical instruments include a first drive assembly having a first drive gear and a lockout mechanism positioned for releasable engagement with the first drive assembly to inhibit rotation of the first drive gear. The lockout mechanism includes a pawl and an actuator for moving the pawl from a first position in engagement with the first drive gear to a second position spaced from the first drive gear.
