Combining strain-based shape sensing with catheter control
Provided are robotic systems and methods for navigation of luminal network that can improve strain-based shape sensing. In one aspect, the system can compare strain-based shape data to shape data determined based on robotic data (e.g., kinematic model data, torque measurements, mechanical model data, command data, etc.) and adjust the strain-based shape data as necessary. Any portion of the strain-based shape data can be adjusted, weighted differently, or discarded based on the comparison. For example, data from trustworthy sources may indicate that the shape of an instrument exhibits or should exhibit one or more characteristics. If the system determines that any portion of the strain-based shape data is not in agreement with such characteristics, the system may adjust the portion of the strain-based shape data such that the adjusted strain-based shape data is in agreement with the characteristics of the instrument.
Intelligent real-time tool and anatomy visualization in 3D imaging workflows for interventional procedures
A system for tracking an instrument includes two or more sensors (22) disposed along a length of an instrument and being spaced apart from adjacent sensors. An interpretation module (45) is configured to select and update an image slice from a three-dimensional image volume in accordance with positions of the two or more sensors. The three-dimensional image volume includes the positions two or more sensors with respect to a target in the volume. An image processing module (48) is configured to generate an overlay (80) indicating reference positions in the image slice. The reference positions include the positions of the two or more sensors and relative offsets from the image slice in a display to provide feedback for positioning and orienting the instrument.
Removable High Intensity Focused Ultrasound Transducer Assembly and Coupling Mechanism
There is presented a removable high-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) transducer and supporting system that allows for HIFU transducer assemblies and other therapeutic ultrasound assemblies to be attached to third party positioning, imaging, or guidance systems while maintaining the required focal-zone positioning ability and the required acoustic energy coupling to tissue, to mechanically or automatically ablate a target volume in unimpeded fashion. There is provided an acoustically transparent and pliable vessel that has an open top end and filled with acoustic coupling fluid, capable of holding the transducer assembly and distal end of the positioning system within it as it executes the HIFU treatment plan/process. The vessel is held in place using a transducer/positioning system and independent external fixturing mechanism.
Apparatus and methods relating to intravascular positioning of distal end of catheter
Systems and methods for navigation and positioning a central venous catheter within a patient. The system may include a first pole and a second pole designed to generate an electric field sufficient to obtain a plurality of field measurements. The system may include a stylet inserted into a medical device. The stylet may include a magnetic assembly configured to produce a magnetic field positioned along a distal portion of the stylet, and a stylet electrode positioned distal of the magnetic assembly. The stylet electrode may be designed to function as both an interior excitation electrode and an interior detection electrode. Advancement of the medical device in the patient may include using a conductance curve generated from the plurality of field measurements to identify an obstruction or malposition in the patient.
SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR PROSTATE TREATMENT UNDER LOCAL ANESTHESIA
A system and method for prostate cancer treatment under local anesthesia includes creating a superficial skin and subcutaneous block in a perineal area of a patient by administering a first anesthetizing agent; creating a deep nerve block under ultrasound guidance by administering a second anesthetizing agent, the second anesthetizing agent infiltrating cavernosal nerve bundle tissue and periprostatic space; and ablating prostate tissue. The office-based method, statistical models and computer generated treatment plans identify and ablate prostate tissue containing cancer through or via the perineum while preserving prostate function, and critical anatomical structures. Multiple technologies are integrated and processed to deliver a safe treatment procedure, under local anesthesia by integrating the information of magnetic resonance imaging and planning the ablative treatment using algorithms that ensure maximal precision in both killing cancerous tissue and preserving healthy tissue along with its corresponding function.
System and method for virtual reality data integration and visualization for 3D imaging and instrument position data
Systems and methods for virtual reality or augmented reality (VR/AR) visualization of 3D medical images using a VR/AR visualization system are disclosed that includes a computing device operatively coupled to a VR/AR device, which includes a holographic display and at least one sensor. The holographic display is configured to display a holographic image to an operator. The computing device is configured to receive at least one stored 3D image of a subject's anatomy and at least one real-time 3D position of at least one surgical instrument, to register the at least one real-time 3D position of the at least one surgical instrument to correspond to the at least one 3D image of the subject's anatomy, and to generate the holographic image comprising the at least one real-time position of the at least one surgical instrument overlaid on the at least one 3D image of the subject's anatomy.
TREATMENT AID APPARATUS
A medical system for removing an object in a body cavity, includes a display, and a controller connectable to a drive device configured to control a medical device operated by an operator to remove the object. The controller is configured to acquire device information indicating features of different types of first devices connectable to the medical device, acquire target information indicating characteristics of a target object to be removed, rank the first devices for removing the target object using the device information and the target information, and display on the display a list of the first devices according to the rank thereof.
APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR TRACKING A MEDICAL ULTRASONIC OBJECT
A vascular occlusion treatment system includes an ultrasound imaging system having an imaging control circuit communicatively coupled to an ultrasound imaging probe and to a display screen, and an ultrasonic vibration system having an ultrasonic generator operatively coupled to a medical ultrasonic object, such as an ultrasonic catheter. The ultrasonic catheter has a corewire with a distal tip. The ultrasonic generator has a generator control circuit that alternatingly switches between an ultrasonic work frequency and a tracking frequency. The generator control circuit sends a notification to the imaging control circuit when the generator control circuit has switched from the ultrasonic work frequency to the tracking frequency. The imaging control circuit responds by initiating a search in an ultrasound imaging space to locate the distal tip that is vibrating at the tracking frequency, and indicating a location of the distal tip in the ultrasound image displayed on the display screen.
THERAPEUTIC ORGAN COOLING
An organ can be cooled to minimize ischemic tissue damage from a vascular occlusion by a thrombus or dissection. A catheter including a thermal member can be used to introduce cold fluid downstream from an arterial occlusion to cool tissue affected by the occlusion. This is particularly useful to minimize neurologic damage from a thrombotic stroke.
