The strength of bone implant attached to a bone is improved by using hybrid inserts which have stems and wings having bone ingrowth surface features and caps having outer surfaces of cured polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA). The stems and wings of the hybrid inserts are inserted into living bone and the bone implant is attached to the hybrid inserts with PMMA cement. Over time, the bone grows into the bone ingrowth surface features. The bone ingrowth strengthens the bonding of the hybrid inserts and the bone implant with the bone over time. The hybrid inserts increase the shear, tensile and torque strength of the bone implants. Bone inserts that do not have ingrowth surface features loosen over time.

Systems and methods for providing deeper knee flexion capabilities for knee prosthesis patients

Systems and methods for providing deeper knee flexion capabilities, more physiologic load bearing and improved patellar tracking for knee prosthesis patients. Such systems and methods include (i) adding more articular surface to the antero-proximal posterior condyles of a femoral component, including methods to achieve that result, (ii) modifications to the internal geometry of the femoral component and the associated femoral bone cuts with methods of implantation, (iii) asymmetrical tibial components that have an unique articular surface that allows for deeper knee flexion than has previously been available, (iv) asymmetrical femoral condyles that result in more physiologic loading of the joint and improved patellar tracking and (v) modifying an articulation surface of the tibial component to include an articulation feature whereby the articulation pathway of the femoral component is directed or guided by articulation feature.

Intervertebral spacer

Disclosed is an assembly and method for implant installation between adjacent vertebral bodies of a patient. The implant has a support body and a rotatable insert therein and the support body is curved for installation between adjacent vertebral bodies transforaminally. An installation instrument is also disclosed for removable attachment to implant and engagement with the rotatable insert to selectively permit rotation between the insert and the support body. The installation instrument extends along a longitudinal tool axis and when the installation instrument is in a first position the insert is rotationally fixed with respect to the support body and when the installation instrument is in a second position the support body may rotate with respect to the insert.

A knee joint endoprosthesis apparatus includes a tibial component for anchoring to a tibia and a meniscal component. The tibial component and the meniscal component are coupled to one another in a coupling position and are completely separated from one another in a separating position. The tibial component has a top side defining an abutment plane, against which a bottom side of the meniscal component abuts in the coupling position. The knee joint endoprosthesis apparatus also includes a coupling device for coupling the tibial component and the meniscal component in the coupling position. The knee joint endoprosthesis apparatus is transferrable from the separating position into the coupling position by a relative movement of the tibial component and the meniscal component.

BONE GRAFT SHAPER & PATIENT SPECIFIC BONE GRAFT

Joint prosthesis methods and apparatuses are provided. A bone graft blank is placed in the chamber of the bone press facing a contoured surface. The contoured surface can be part of the bone press or can comprise a surface of a patient specific negative that can be inserted into the bone press. A bone contact surface of the bone graft blank is disposed in the chamber to face the contoured surface of the patient specific insert negative. The bone contact surface of the bone graft blank is compressed against the contoured surface. The bone contact surface can be reshaped to form a patient specific bone graft.

Endoprosthesis for the partial replacement of the human pelvic bone

An endoprosthesis for partial replacement of the human pelvic bone (B) in the region of the acetabulum and of the ilium (II), by means of which a single prosthesis provides a bone replacement and stabilization in the region of the acetabulum and in defective sections of the ilium (II). The endoprosthesis, is suitable for restoring one single piece, even for serious bone defects in the pelvic region, and for maintaining or reshaping articulation and mobility in this region. The endoprosthesis includes a first section having a first partially spherical recess that serves as a replacement for the acetabulum, and a second section for the contact elements on the ilium (II). The second section extends from the first section along an edge of the first partially spherical recess in a flattened manner and is integrally connected to the first section. A second partially spherical recess is provided in the second section.

PROSTHESIS WITH SURFACES HAVING DIFFERENT TEXTURES AND METHOD OF MAKING THE PROSTHESIS

A joint prosthesis system is suitable for cementless fixation. The system has two metal implant components and a bearing. One of the metal implant components has an articulation surface for articulation with the bearing. The other metal implant component has a mounting surface for supporting the bearing. One of the metal implant components includes a solid metal portion and a porous metal portion. The porous metal portion has surfaces with different characteristics, such as roughness, to improve bone fixation, ease removal of the implant component in a revision surgery, reduce soft tissue irritation, improve the strength of a sintered bond between the solid and porous metal portions, or reduce or eliminate the possibility of blood traveling through the porous metal portion into the joint space. A method of making the joint prosthesis is also disclosed. The invention may also be applied to discrete porous metal implant components, such as augment.
