Kinematic-axis locating device for knee arthroplasty
11529245 · 2022-12-20 ·

A kinematic-axis locating device for knee arthroplasty includes two spoon-shaped arms and a linking piece. The two spoon-shaped arms are to be placed between a proximal tibia and a distal femur. Due to checking effects of ligaments on the proximal tibia and the distal femur, a medial condyle femur and a lateral condyle femur hold the two spoon-shaped arms on the tibial plateau using their respective curvatures. The linking piece provides a reference axis that is naturally defined by the two inserted and positioned spoon-shaped arms. The reference axis is roughly parallel to a kinematic axis upon which the medial condyle and the lateral condyle pivot against the tibial plateau. Articular surface resection can then be performed between the proximal tibia and the distal femur with reference to the reference axis.

Disclosed are orthopedic implant kits. One disclosed kit comprises an implant having a joint head portion, the joint head portion having a generally convex distal surface and generally concave proximal surface, the implant comprising a post portion protruding proximally from the proximal surface, the post portion having a dorsal surface and a ventral surface (which is a plantar surface in the case of a metatarsal bone) and including a first threaded aperture extending therebetween, and a bone screw. The bone screw has a threaded shaft complementary to the threaded surface of the post portion and preferably is configured to provide bicortical fixation of the implant.

Joint spacers

An apparatus including a joint spacer for treatment of a joint of a human subject. The joint spacer includes a bioresorbable stent having compressed and expanded configurations and a covering that covers an external surface of the stent. The joint spacer is configured to be inserted into a space of the joint, and is shaped, when the bioresorbable stent is in the expanded configuration, to provide mechanical support to the joint until the bioresorbable stent resorbs into a body of the subject. Treating a joint of a human subject includes inserting a joint spacer into a space of the joint while a bioresorbable stent of the joint spacer is in a compressed configuration, and transitioning the bioresorbable stent to an expanded configuration within the joint, such that the joint spacer provides mechanical support to the joint until the bioresorbable stent resorbs into a body of the subject.

HIP JOINT INSTRUMENT AND METHOD

A medical device for delivering an action to an area of a hip joint or its surroundings, inside a human body, is provided. The hip joint of a patient comprises a collum femur and a ball shaped caput femur, being the proximal parts of the femoral bone, and an acetabulum, being a bowl shaped part of the pelvic bone. The medical device comprising; an elongated member, having a length axis along its elongated distribution, comprising a first portion, adapted to enter the body of the patient, and a mechanical element, adapted to be used during an operation in the hip joint or its surroundings, inside the body. The first portion of the elongated member comprises a holding member adapted to hold the mechanical element inside the body of the patient, wherein the first portion of the elongated member have a first portion cross-section area substantially perpendicular to the length axis of the elongated member. The first portion is adapted to pass through a hole, in a bone of the patient, the hole having a hole cross-section area. The first portion cross-section area, is adapted to be smaller than said hole cross-section area. The mechanical element have a functional status, ready to deliver said action inside said body, when held by the holding member inside the body of the patient. The mechanical element is adapted to have a mechanical element cross-sectional area substantially perpendicular to the length axis of the elongated member, substantially larger than the first portion cross-sectional area and adapted to be unable to pass through the hole, when the mechanical element is in the functional status.

COUNTER-TORQUE IMPLANT

A bone plate system may include a bone plate having a bone-facing side, an obverse side displaced from the bone-facing side by a thickness of the bone plate, a first end, and second end displaced from the first end along a longitudinal length of the bone plate. The bone plate may have a first fastener hole extending through the bone plate between the bone-facing side and the obverse side, a second fastener hole extending through the bone plate between the bone-facing side and the obverse side, and a plug extending outwardly from the bone-facing side. The plug may have a cross-sectional shape, perpendicular to the thickness, that is elongated along the longitudinal length.

COLLAGEN-BASED MENISCUS IMPLANTS

A method for producing a collagen meniscus implant by obtaining a freshly excised non-human meniscus, rinsing it in an aqueous solution, drying the rinsed meniscus, shaping it to approximate in dimension an average-sized human meniscus, extracting non-collagenous material from the shaped meniscus, and sterilizing it, yielding a collagen meniscus implant containing at least 90% by weight of type I collagen, less than 0.5% by weight of glycosaminoglycan, and less than 600 ppm DNA. Also disclosed is a collagen meniscus implant prepared by the above method. Further provided is a biocompatible and bioresorbable porous implant for meniscus repair. The implant includes a three-dimensional network of collagen fibers oriented in a direction approximating the collagen fiber orientation of a human meniscus. The implant has a size and a contour substantially equivalent to a human meniscus, and has a chemical composition similar to the above-described collagen meniscus implant.
