Therefore, a pre-treatment liquid used on an electrical steel sheet having a forsterite coating on a surface thereof is provided before applying an insulating coating treatment liquid containing at least one salt selected from the group consisting of phosphate, borate, and silicate, the pre-treatment liquid. The pre-treatment liquid includes: at least one inorganic acid selected from the group consisting of hydrochloric acid, sulfuric acid, and phosphoric acid; and acetic acid, wherein a content of the acetic acid is not less than 1 mass ppm and not more than 3000 mass ppm.

A method of producing a grain-oriented electrical steel sheet of this disclosure comprises subjecting a steel slab containing predetermined additive elements to hot rolling; subjecting the hot-rolled sheet to cold rolling to have a final sheet thickness; subjecting the cold-rolled sheet to decarburization annealing; applying an annealing separator having MgO as a main component to the decarburization annealing sheet; and subjecting the decarburization annealing sheet to finish annealing. The main component of the annealing separator has a BET specific surface area ratio H.sub.2O/N.sub.2 of 0.6 to 1.6 and a percentage of particles with a particle size of 40 .Math.m or more in a slurry state of 5 mass% or less.

Method of producing grain-oriented electrical steel sheet

To improve and stabilize magnetic properties, a steel sheet is soaked in a temperature range of 1000° C. or more and 1120° C. or less for 200 sec or less and then soaked in a temperature range of 650° C. or more and 1000° C. or less for 200 sec or less in annealing before final cold rolling, and the amount of Al in precipitates after the annealing before the final cold rolling is limited to 50% or more of the total amount of Al contained in the steel slab.
