Intra-Operative Gap Detection
20230255797 · 2023-08-17 ·

Disclosed herein are joint implants and methods for intra-operatively detecting joint implant gap. A method for detecting a joint implant gap may include coupling a first implant to a first bone of a joint, coupling a second implant to a second bone of the joint, measuring an amplitude of a magnetic flux density using a magnetic sensor to determine a gap between the first and second implants. The first implant may include at least one magnetic marker. The second implant may be configured to contact the first implant. The second implant may include at least one magnetic sensor to detect the magnetic flux density of the magnetic marker. The gap between the first and second implant may be intra-operatively determined using the measured amplitude of the magnetic flux density.

Implant Encoder

Disclosed herein are joint implants and methods for tracking joint implant performance. A joint implant according to the present disclosure can include a first implant on a first bone and a second implant on a second bone of a joint. The first implant can include medial and lateral markers. The second implant can include a medial marker reader to identify the medial markers and a lateral marker reader to identify the lateral markers to provide positional data of the first implant with respect to the second implant. The second implant can include a medial load sensor to measure medial load data and a lateral load sensor to measure lateral load data. A processor coupled to the medial marker reader, the lateral marker reader, the medial load sensor, and the lateral load sensor can transmit the positional data, the medial and lateral load data to an external source.

METHOD FOR DESIGNING A JOINT PROSTHESIS
20220257384 · 2022-08-18 ·

A method for designing a two-part joint prosthesis (830) comprises: providing kinematic data of a subject's joint under load; and designing the joint prosthesis using the kinematic data, wherein the working surfaces of the two-part prosthesis comprise, consist essentially of or consist of cellular material. Advantageously, the method may not require any intra-operative adjustments to replace one or more of the components (831, 832), e.g. with a component of a different size. In particular, if components are made of biological tissues, such as a patient's own cells, it is advantageous to design and produce an implant that requires no adjustments intra-operatively as each implant may be manufactured specifically for each patient, and the time and costs of producing a range of sizes, most of which would not be required, would otherwise be prohibitive.

An orthopedic implant includes a porous insert having a first insert portion having a first insert thickness and a second insert portion having a second insert thickness. The implant includes a non-metallic structure having a first non-metallic portion having a first non-metallic thickness and a second non-metallic portion having a second non-metallic thickness. The first non-metallic portion is attached to the first insert portion and the second non-metallic portion is attached to the second insert portion. Either or both of the second insert thickness being different from the first insert thickness and the second non-metallic thickness being different from the first non-metallic thickness. The porous insert includes a porous projection extending into the non-metallic structure.

MACHINE LEARNING BASED JOINT EVALUATION METHOD

A method of evaluating a human joint which includes two or more bones and ligaments, wherein the ligaments are under anatomical tension to connect the bones together, creating a load-bearing articulating joint. The method includes: defining locations of one or more sockets, each socket representing a ligament attachment point to bone; interconnecting the one or more sockets with mathematical relationships that describe the kinematic physics of the one or more sockets relative to one another; providing spatial information to describe the movement of the sockets relative to one another; defining an initial kinematic state of the joint; defining a final kinematic state of the joint; using computer-based system to compute a difference between the initial and final kinematic states; and using a computer-based system to compute modifications to the mathematical relationships of the sockets to achieve a final kinematic state.
