Method of treating osteoarthritis of the knee
11660198 · 2023-05-30 ·

The method of treating osteoarthritis of the knee (OAK) includes resection of the patella, patellar tendon, proximal tibia, and distal femur, and bone grafting after resection. The bone grafting includes using a single complete osteo-articular allograft configured to replace the knee joint, distal femur, and proximal tibia. Metallic plates are used for internal fixation of the allograft. The procedure can provide patients with full knee flexion, and thereby enable kneeling, e.g., as required in the Islamic prayer.

TIBIAL PROSTHESIS WITH TIBIAL BEARING COMPONENT SECURING FEATURE

According to one example, a tibial prosthesis that can include a tibial bearing component, tibial baseplate, an insert and a fastener. The tibial bearing component can have medial and lateral proximal articular surfaces and an opposing distal surface. The tibial bearing component can define at least one recess therein with the recess having an opening at a periphery of the tibial bearing component. The tibial baseplate can be coupled to the tibial bearing component on the proximal surface thereof and having a distal surface configured to be disposed on a resected proximal surface of a tibia. The insert can be configured to be disposed within the recess and can engage the tibial baseplate and the tibial bearing component. The fastener can be insertable into the tibial bearing component and can be configured to retain the insert to the tibial baseplate.

AUGMENT ELEMENT FOR KNEE PROSTHESIS

Augment element for knee prosthesis, comprising a metal body of a substantially truncated conical shape configured to be inserted into a bone extremity and having an outer surface comprising a metal trabecular surface. The metal body being hollow with an axial through-cavity defining a plurality of substantially annular transversal sections. The metal body is inclined in a direction of inclination, so as to define at least one eccentricity between a first transversal section at a first end of the axial through-cavity and a second transversal section at a second end of the axial through-cavity. The augment element further comprises a plurality of through-slits in the metal body, open from the first end up to an intermediate portion on the metal body, wherein the plurality of through-slits is configured for a radial compression of the metal body, locally reducing a circumference of the substantially annular transversal sections during insertion of the augment element, and increasing a press-fit towards a bone portion.

Tibial component and tibial insert of a knee prosthesis comprising a promontory and its associated cut-out

A tibial component of a knee prosthesis includes a tibial plate and a tibial insert, and anterior and posterior abutments projecting from an upper face of the tibial plate. The anterior abutment extends along at least part of the tibial plate and the posterior abutment extends for at least part of the tibial plate and comprises a part forming a promontory and an anterior cut-out, in particular central, in the form of a window formed in the anterior abutment opening onto the posterior face of the latter opposite the part forming the promontory. The tibial insert has a face upper, a face lower and a lateral face, which has a shape matching the part forming the promontory, characterised in that at least one flexible tab in the form of a hook projects centrally from an anterior face of the insert and locks by snap-fitting, into the anterior cut-out.

ANATOMIC KNEE PROSTHESIS AND DESIGNING METHOD
20230111847 · 2023-04-13 ·

A knee prosthesis and a method of selecting for a particular patient a knee prosthesis from an inventory of available knee prosthesis or from 3D knee prosthesis models is provided. The method includes the steps of (a) parameterizing a knee prosthesis according to well-defined and independent knee joint compartments, (b) generating a large number knee shapes in the form of 3D knee prosthesis models which reproduce the 3D shape asymmetries of each individual knee, thereby enabling the replication of the knee motion of essentially any patient by generating shapes which vary the shape parameters (surface and dimension) of at least one of those compartments and storing these 3D knee prosthesis models in a database, and (c) studying the patient’s pathology and developing pre -pathological knee prosthesis criteria matching the patient’s needs. Using a planning algorithm, a suitable knee prosthesis may be selected among an inventory of existing knee prostheses or the large number of knee shapes, the prosthesis or shape selected best meeting the patient’s needs as determined by the study.
