Edge-Matched Articular Implant
A method of joint arthroplasty includes obtaining an image of at least a portion of the tibial plateau. An outer periphery of at least a portion of the tibial plateau is derived based, at least in part, on the image. An implant is provided for the tibial plateau, the implant having a periphery that includes an outer edge that substantially matches the derived outer periphery of the tibial plateau.
A PATIENT SPECIFIC TEMPLATE AND METHOD FOR PARTIAL KNEE REPLACEMENT
This invention relates to a surgical device for preparing the knee joint of a patient undergoing to partial knee replacement. The device is patient specific and has information about implant size, alignment and bone cut.
This device consists of two parts, one is related to femoral template and the other one is related to tibial template. The femoral template positioned to a predefined location on the femur bone based on virtual planning of the surgery on specific software using 3D imaging. The femoral template allows to perform the posterior distal cut, drill and detect the location of the two holes relevant to the distal cut and implant pegs, while the tibial template allows the surgeon to make the tibial horizontal and vertical cuts; beside that, it has double slots which allows the surgeon to make extra bone removal if needed or when deciding to use larger size of polyethylene insert.
Morphologically curved sagittal wall of a tibial implant
Disclosed herein are methods of designing and fabricating prosthetic implants having a sagittal wall in which at least a portion thereof traverses a non-linear path. A method of fabricating such a prosthetic implant may include generating a virtual bone model based on image information obtained from at least one bone, determining a proposed height of the prosthetic implant at a first location on the virtual bone model, determining a proposed resection depth into the at least one bone at the first location based at least in part on the proposed height of the prosthetic implant, and determining a curved resection path across a portion of the virtual bone model. The curved resection path may intersect the first location and the prosthetic implant may have a curved sagittal wall corresponding to the curved resection path.
Meniscus Prosthetic Device
A prosthetic device that may be utilized as an artificial meniscus is disclosed. The prosthetic device can restore shock absorption, stability, and function to the knee after the damaged natural meniscus is removed and replaced with the prosthetic device. In some embodiments, the meniscus includes an integral fixation anchor and additional features that minimize the requirement for modification of the implant for proper fit during surgery.
SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR JOINT RESURFACING AND REPAIR
An implant resection system for preparing an implant site to replace a defect in an articular surface of a first bone includes a first guide configured to be coupled generally to the first bone. The first guide includes a body portion defining a channel configured to receive a pin, wherein the pin is configured to penetrate and form a longitudinally disposed bore within the first bone. The implant resection system further includes a second guide configured to be coupled generally perpendicular to the first bone proximate to the defect by way of the bore. The second guide includes a drill bit configured to form an excision site through a portion of the articular surface in preparation of receipt of an implant.
Ceramic with metal/alloy coating
Fired magnesium oxide stabilized zirconia ceramic body having a highly smooth, polished or otherwise equivalent surface has, on at least part of the surface, a metal/metal alloy coating. The fired ceramic body can be a magnesium oxide stabilized tetragonally toughened zirconia. The coating can be from a metal or metal alloy other than by tantalum vapor deposition, and can include a titanium metal or alloy. The coating can be a macro coating, up to less than about 0.015 of an inch in thickness. The coated magnesium oxide stabilized zirconia ceramic can be a tool or an orthopedic implant or component for an orthopedic implant, which can be a load bearing implant or component for a load bearing implant having an articular surface and a nonarticular surface where the metal or metal alloy coating is on at least part of the nonarticular surface. Plasma arc spraying under vacuum may be employed.
DEVICE AND METHOD TO ASSIST REVISION SURGERIES FOR KNEE ARTHROPLASTY
A reference-point providing (RPP) device for conversion of unicompartmental knee arthroplasty (UKA) to total knee arthroplasty (TKA), has a wedge having a joint surface, a bottom flat surface, and a second surface, the second surface extending from the bottom flat surface to the joint surface at a thick end of the wedge and a mounting flange; the wedge fitting in a space remaining after removal of a UKA implant with the joint surface providing a reference point for determining alignment of a TKA implant. Converting a UKA to TKA with the RPP requires removing UKA implant from a femur of a patient, inserting the RPP and attaching it to the femur; using a posterior reference guide having a first paddle on a condyle of the femur and a second paddle on the RPP, to determine necessary alignment and rotation of the TKA implant; and removing the RPP.
Systems and methods for prosthetic component orientation
A computer-implemented method determines an orientation parameter value of a prosthetic component. The method includes receiving a first desired separation distance between a first prosthetic component and a second prosthetic component at a first flexion position of a flexion joint and estimating a first estimated separation distance between the first prosthetic component and the second prosthetic component at the first flexion position of the joint for at least one potential orientation of the first prosthetic component. The method also includes determining a first orientation parameter value of the first prosthetic component by comparing the first estimated separation distance to the first desired separation distance and outputting the first orientation parameter value via a user interface.
CRUCIATE-RETAINING KNEE PROSTHESIS
Certain embodiments generally provide an improved tibial base member comprising keel portions that allow one or both cruciate ligaments to be preserved. Other embodiments provide improved lateral and/or medial inserts having a mesial lip that helps relieve and or prevent impingement between the femoral component and the tibial eminence. Other embodiments provide improved femoral components having various chamfers to provide additional clearance with respect to the tibial eminence and posterior cruciate ligament without decreasing bone coverage.
