Robotic Shoulder Fracture Management

A method of repairing a fractured humerus may include implanting a prosthetic humeral stem into a humeral canal of the fractured humerus. First and second tuberosities of the fractured humerus may be robotically machined to include first and second implant-facing surfaces that are substantially negatives of first and second surface portions of the proximal end of the prosthetic humeral stem. The first and second tuberosities may be machined so that the first and second tuberosities have first and second interlocking surfaces shaped to interlock with each other. During implantation, the first and second implant-facing surfaces are in contact with the first and second surface portions of the proximal end of the prosthetic humeral stem, and the first interlocking surface interlocks with the second interlocking surface.

MODULAR HUMERAL HEAD

An articular component is provided that includes an articular body having an articular surface, a bone anchor, a coupling portion, and a coupler. The bone anchor includes a distal end configured to be lodged in a bone and a proximal face. The coupling portion includes a recessed area in the articular body disposed between the articular surface and the distal end of the bone anchor. The coupler includes a first portion configured to mate with the coupling portion at a selected rotational position, and a second portion opposite the first portion, wherein the second portion is configured to couple, directly or indirectly, the articular body with the bone anchor.

Various embodiments disclosed herein relate to a humeral resection guide. The humeral resection guide can include a cutting block having a side surface and a cutting surface. The cutting surface can be configured to constrain at least one degree of freedom of movement of a cutting instrument during surgical alteration of the humerus. The humeral resection guide can include a boom extending away from the cutting surface of the cutting block, the boom comprising a cut depth adjustment feature disposed along at least a portion of a length of the boom. The humeral resection guide can include a cut depth indicator disposed at a population derived location along the length of the boom. The cut depth indicator can be configured to indicate that the cutting surface is at a target cut depth for the alteration of the humerus when the cut depth indicator is aligned with a support.

Arthroscopic shoulder arthroplasty, components, instruments, and method thereof

A novel method and instrumentation for insertion of humeral and glenoid total shoulder implant using arthroscopic visualization for bony preparation as well as insertion of components through small incisions. Mini instruments and cannulated guides and reamers are used in order to perform the procedure under direct arthroscopic visualization. For ease of insertion, the components are inserted separately and assembled in situ. Securing the humeral components in place is accomplished with bicortical screw transfixing the central peg of component. Also disclosed are components, parts thereof and instruments used therewith.

Shoulder arthroplasty implant system

An implant for shoulder arthroplasty includes a stem and optionally a head component or a cup component. The stem is sized and shaped to fit into an intramedullary canal of the humerus. The proximal portion of the stem has a concave taper and the distal portion of the stem has a taper. The distal taper includes an anterior-posterior taper and a medial-lateral taper. The shape of the stem loads the metaphysis of the humerus with a greater load than the load applied to the diaphysis of the humerus.

A surface-reconfiguration implant, a method of using the surface-reconfiguration implant, and a method of implantation of the surface-reconfiguration implant that creates an articular surface between an upper portion of a humeral head and a greater tuberosity, and an undersurface of an acromion in shoulders with massive rotator cuff tears is provided. The surface-reconfiguration implant can include a body portion including at least an undersurface and an articular surface, where the undersurface is configured to interface with portions of a proximal humerus to facilitate attachment of the body portion thereto, and portions of the articular surface extend to and/and preferably beyond a normal anatomical shape of portions a humeral head and a greater tuberosity both superiorly and medially when the body portion is attached to the proximal humerus.

HUMERAL ARTHROPLASTY

Arthroplasty components include an articular surface and a bone-facing surface. The bone-facing surface includes a concave arrangement of planar surfaces which converge as they approach a middle portion of the articular surface. Instruments and implantation methods are also disclosed.

Adjustable orthopedic connections

The disclosure includes methods and systems for making orthopedic connections where there is unique adjustability to the connection. Illustratively, one embodiment provides a connecting assembly for connecting a plurality of orthopedic components. Such connecting assemblies can include a first orthopedic component that provides a female bore. Additionally the assembly can include a second orthopedic component that can be or include a male-type connecting member that is positionable in the bore of the first orthopedic component. In one preferred form, the male-type connecting member will be a quasi-spherical member. The quasi-spherical member can include a textured outer surface, e.g., for contacting one or more walls or surfaces in the bore in a fashion that removeably locks or helps to removeably lock or fix the quasi-spherical member in the bore.
