Spinal implant
11737887 · 2023-08-29 ·

Presently disclosed is a spinal implant. In an embodiment, a spinal implant includes a porous body configured to promote bone growth. The porous body may have an attachment portion that is configured to secure the spinal implant to a fixation system attached to one or more vertebra. The porous body may also include a fusion plate extending from the attachment portion and configured to contact transverse processes, lamina, or facet of adjacent vertebrae. Accordingly, when the attachment portion is secured to the fixation system, the fusion plate may be maintained in compression against the transverse processes, lamina, or facet.

Facet joint replacement devices

Devices and systems can be used to treating spinal conditions. For example, this document describes artificial facet joint systems that can be implanted to treat spinal conditions while facilitating normal stability and motions of the spine. Such systems and methods can be used to treat spinal conditions such as, but not limited to, spondylosis, vertebral fractures, and the like.

VERTEBRAL JOINT IMPLANTS AND DELIVERY TOOLS

A spinal joint distraction system for treating a facet joint including articular surfaces having a contour is disclosed and may include a delivery device including a generally tubular structure adapted to engage a facet joint, an implant adapted to be delivered through the delivery device and into the facet joint, the implant comprising two members arranged in opposed position, and an implant distractor comprising a generally elongate member adapted to advance between the two members of the implant causing separation of the members and distraction of the facet joint, wherein the implant is adapted to conform to the shape of the implant distractor and/or the articular surfaces of the facet upon being delivered to the facet joint. Several embodiments of a system, several embodiments of an implant, and several methods are disclosed including a method for interbody fusion.

Facet Fusion Tube Assembly

A facet fusion tube assembly includes an elongated tube that defines a working channel to accept tools, instruments or materials for conducting a facet fusion. The tube includes a clip on its outer circumference that is configured to engage the outer surface of an adjacent tool or instrument used to access and engage the pedicle. A centering cap can be mounted at the proximal end of the elongated tube to align and center a working tool, such as a burring tool. An inner removable rod can extend through the tube to prevent soft tissue migration into the tube during insertion, and can be used for bone graft packing once the facet joint or other area of the spine is prepared for fusion. In use, the tube is clipped onto an adjacent instrument or tool to anchor the facet fusion tube assembly in a proper orientation relative to the facet joint.

Spinal implant for motion preservation or fusion

An interspinous posterior device (IPD) is described. The IPD has a body and bone fixation elements on either side of the body, each of said bone fixation elements having a ratchet locking mechanism for fixing the body to successive spinous processes of a mammalian vertebra. Each of the bone fixation elements is independently adjustable by ratcheting it separately and independently of the other bone fixation elements. The body of the IPD has a dynamic configuration and a non-dynamic configuration, wherein the dynamic configuration allows for both extension and flexion of the successive spinous processes and the non-dynamic configuration prohibits extension of the successive spinous processes. The IPD also includes a removable extension restriction block, wherein the extension restriction block can optionally be inserted in the body to prohibit extension or can be removed from the body to allow extension.

An interspinous spacer that includes a body having a distal portion and a proximal portion; an actuator at least partially disposed in the body; and a first arm and a second arm, where the first and second arms are rotatably coupled to a distal portion of the body and coupled to the actuator, where the actuator, first arm, and second arm are configured, upon rotation of the actuator in a first direction, to move the first and second arms from an implantation position, in which the first and second arms extend from the distal portion of the body back toward the proximal portion of the body, to a deployed position, in which the first and second arms extend away from the body.

Methods and Implants for Facet Joint Stabilization or Fusion

A method for facet joint stabilization or fusion includes inserting an implant into a facet joint of a patient and introducing a bone cement into the facet joint. The implant includes a body that is sized and configured to be entirely contained in the facet joint. The bone cement may be introduced through a first channel of the body of the implant. A portion of the bone cement may flow back into the implant through a second channel in the body of the implant.

Cervical distraction/implant delivery device

Systems for distracting a facet joint and positioning a permanent implant in the joint are disclosed. The implants serve to retain a distracted position of the facet joint which is achieved with positioning of the leading end of a distraction tool in the facet joint and then distracting or enlarging the joint a desired amount. The permanent implant could be part of the distraction mechanism which can be separated from the delivery tool once the joint has been distracted or an auxiliary implant may be positioned before the distraction mechanism is removed from the distracted joint. The permanent implants can be solid, mechanical devices that may have fixation means thereon to hold them in place or injected fluids such as hydrogels or fluids confined within balloons.

The guidance and positioning device may be a system for creating a passage in tissue, positioning fasteners or other implants, and tensioning an elongated fastening member, like a suture, thread, wire, or pin. In some embodiments, the device may allow for the implantation of multiple sutures and fasteners in tissue. A fastener may be positioned at the distal end of a flexible pushrod. The fastener may be connected with the pushrod or may be loosely fitted with the distal end of the pushrod. A suture may be looped through or connected with the fastener such that one, two, or more sections, legs, strands, or portions of the suture extend from the fastener.
