Multi-Matrix Composite Prosthetic Socket and Methods of Fabrication
A multi-matrix composite socket includes struts formed from a first matrix composite and inner and outer layers relative to the struts formed from at least a second matrix composite. Each matrix composite is comprised of fibers embedded in a resin. The fibers create spaces into which a flowable resin infuses during manufacturing and also reinforce the resin. A base and a plurality of struts are assembled and positioned over a first fabric layer and a second fabric layer is positioned over the struts. A resin is infused into the spaces defined by the first and second fabric layers and around the struts to form an over-molded multi-composite matrix socket.
Suspended sleeve assembly comprising a compression sleeve and a suspension stand
A suspended sleeve assembly includes a suspension stand and a compression sleeve. An upper portion of the compression sleeve is attached onto the suspension stand, but a lower portion of the compression sleeve is unattached from the suspension stand. The suspended sleeve assembly can also include a support stand. The suspended sleeve assembly can be used to shape a prosthetic socket. The compression sleeve applies a circumferential pressure onto the prosthetic socket as the prosthetic socket is being inserted into the compression sleeve as a patient steps into the compression sleeve and applies at least a portion of body weight to the compression sleeve. The prosthetic socket can be heated and shaped by hand, so that it fits the residual limb of the patient. The suspended sleeve assembly can also be used to shape other prosthetic components, such as a negative plaster cast.
Flexible inner socket for providing inner circumference reduction to rigid prosthetic socket
A flexible inner socket is fabricated by forming a pre-socket. The pre-socket includes a body formed with an opening and an enclosed end. The enclosed end is opposite to the opening. The body of the pre-socket has an outer circumference that is smaller than the inner circumference of the rigid prosthetic socket. Different portions of the body may have different thicknesses. The preform socket is heated. After the heating, the flexible inner socket is formed by molding the pre-socket onto the inner surface of the rigid prosthetic socket to form the flexible inner socket. The inner circumference of the rigid prosthetic socket is reduced by a thickness of the flexible inner socket when the flexible inner socket is attached to the inner surface of the rigid prosthetic socket. An opening of the flexible inner socket may be trimmed after the formation to fit contours of an opening of the rigid prosthetic socket.
Sheath made of an elastomer material for a prosthesis liner, and custom-made sheath for a prosthesis
A sheath made of an elastomer material for a prosthesis liner comprises an inner wall and an outer wall defining a sheath body that extends between a proximal end suitable for placing the sheath body onto a stump and a distal end. The sheath is provided at the distal end thereof with a conformable cavity that is formed in the sheath body and is open to the outside via an opening.
Varying density of a model for manufacturing a liner
A system and method for method including receiving data representing coordinates of a shape of a body part, forming a model of a flexible inner liner based upon the received data, the flexible inner liner configured to be placed over the body part, receiving, as input, a thickness and an offset of the model of the flexible inner liner, assigning a default density to an internal structure of the model; and varying the default density of the model without changing an outer geometry of the model to create a modified model of the flexible inner liner.
PROSTHETIC LIMBS
An actuator for a prosthetic digit is provided. The actuator comprises a driven, mobile tendon tensioner to which a tendon can be attached. The tensioner being movable along a shaft in either direction so as to place tension on the tendon or to relax the tendon.
PROSTHETIC LIMBS
A prosthetic digit is provided and comprises one or more channels through which tendon-like members can pass to cause flexing of a joint. The channel/s have a mouth at each end thereof, the mouths being rounded, whereby in use to spread the normal tendon force over a larger area, thereby reducing the pressure.
PROSTHETIC DESIGN AND MANUFACTURE
A method for designing a prosthetic limb including obtaining a three-dimensional model representing a limb of a patient. One or more criteria for a prosthetic limb are determined, from the three-dimensional model. Object data is generated for one or more elements of the prosthetic limb according to the determined criteria.
Prosthetic Devices and Methods of Manufacturing the Same
Embodiments of the present invention provide improved prosthetic devices. The prosthetic devices may be fabricated using environmental friendly, renewable and sustainable materials. Methods of manufacturing the devices are also provided. Additionally, the present invention provides an environmental friendly, renewable and sustainable substitute for carbon and/or fiberglass materials.
SUSPENSION LINER SYSTEM WITH SEAL
A suspension liner has a liner body portion, a textile material, and a plurality of seals formed along a length of the suspension liner toward a closed distal end and protruding circumferentially about a liner profile. Each seal has a same shape including a peak having a rounded profile and a width narrowing toward the peak and defines a sealing surface arranged to form a secure interface with an interior wall of the socket that retains the suspension liner within the prosthetic socket. The textile material is located intermediate interior and exterior surfaces of the suspension liner that formed of one or more silicone materials in the area of the seals and the textile material defines the exterior surface of the suspension liner proximal and distal to the seals.
