A user equipment (UE) includes a receiver that receives, from a base station (B S), multiple reference signals transmitted using first beams, a processor, and a transmitter. The first beams comprise at least one second beam used for Physical Downlink Control Channel (PDCCH) transmission between the BS and the UE and third beams that are not used for the PDCCH transmission. The processor measures quality of the first beams. The transmitter reports, to the BS, the quality of the at least one second beam and part of the third beams.

The present disclosure provides a method of generating codebook in a wireless communication system with multiple antenna arrays, as well as a wireless communication system, base station and terminal using the codebook for communication. The method comprises steps of: providing a basic codebook which contains multiple pre-coding matrices; and assigning phase offsets to certain pre-coding matrices in the basic codebook to form a codebook with phase offset. The feedback overhead from a client to a base station side is reduced and a good precision of feedback for multi-antenna array is kept by applying the method of generating codebook and using the generated codebook in the wireless communication system, base station and terminal.

METHOD OF PERFORMING BEAM REPORTING AND USER EQUIPMENT

A method of performing beam reporting in a wireless communication system is disclosed including receiving, with a user equipment (UE), multiple Transmission (Tx) beams used for transmission of reference signals (RSs) from a base station (BS), and performing, with the UE, first beam reporting to the BS. The first beam reporting indicates the Tx beams divided into groups based on a first predetermined grouping type. When the receiving simultaneously receives first Tx beams of the multiple Tx beams, the first Tx beams are divided into a same group based on the first predetermined grouping type. When the receiving simultaneously receives first Tx beams of the multiple Tx beams, the first Tx beams are divided into different groups based on the first predetermined grouping type.

Efficient CQI signaling in multi-beam MIMO systems

The present invention relates to the signaling of channel quality information in a multi-beam transmission system, wherein a plurality of beams are simultaneously transmitted and a plurality of sets of channel quality information are transmitted for controlling independently the transmission rate on the different beams. Determined are beams with a different quality resulting in different effects of errors in the transmissions of the channel quality information for the beams. Said different effects are exploited for reducing a signaling overhead of the channel quality information for the beams.

Mechanisms of reducing beamforming feedback reporting sizes in WIFI communication. At a beamformee STA, beamforming feedback matrices generated from channel estimation are subject to two compression processes: first compressed to angles through Givens rotation and then further compressed by using source coding. The double compressed feedback information is transmitted in a report to the beamformer. Accordingly, the beamformer reconstructs the feedback matrices by first decompressing the reported information by source decoding and then further decompressing based on the Givens rotation. In some other embodiments, the beamformee STA uses a beambook to map the beamforming feedback matrices to predetermined beamforming vectors. The associated indices of the vectors, which may be compressed, are transmitted in a beamforming feedback report.

A method implemented in a base station used in a wireless communications system is disclosed. The method comprises having 1-layer, 2-layer, 3-layer, and 4-layer codebooks for 4 transmit antenna (4TX) transmission, each codebook including a plurality of precoding matrices, precoding data with one of the plurality of precoding matrices, and transmitting, to a user equipment, the precoded data, wherein each of the 1-layer and 2-layer codebooks comprises a first codebook and a second codebook, and wherein each precoding matrix in the first codebook comprises a first index and a second index.
