Passive Upper Extremity Prosthesis
A passive upper extremity prosthesis for enabling a user with a residual arm to play a cue sport includes a socket that is configured to position over and to couple to a residual arm of a user. A connector that is coupled to the socket is configured to selectively couple to a cue stick to couple the socket to the cue stick, positioning the user to manipulate the cue stick to play a cue sport, such as pool and billiards.
SHAPE MEMORY ALLOY MICROFILAMENT YARNS
Shape memory yarns described herein include twisted microfilaments made from a shape memory alloy that may provide superelastic or shape memory properties. The shape memory yarns are formed into coils that provide a high degree of actuation or elasticity along an axis of the coiled shape memory yarn, and may have relatively low porosity, low rigidity, and/or low change of volume compared to shape memory coils formed from solid structures. Coiled shape memory yarns may provide further tailorability of a superelastic or shape memory response of a system or device incorporating the coiled shape memory yarns through various coil parameters, such as coil pitch or density, or torque balancing, such as heat treating or plying the coiled shape memory yarns.
SUSPENSION LINER WITH SEAL COMPONENT
A seal component for a prosthetic liner comprises a base portion located at a distal portion of the seal component and anchored circumferentially to an exterior surface of the liner; a seal wall arranged to flexibly and movably extend relative to a body of the liner; at least two seal rings radially and outwardly extending from the seal wall; and an outwardly pitched portion at the distal end of the seal component and extends obliquely away from the base portion relative to the axis of the seal component, and an inwardly pitched portion at the proximal end of the seal component and extends obliquely toward the axis of the seal component, the at least two seal rings are located between the outwardly and inwardly pitched portions.
Liner for prosthetic and orthopedic systems
A liner is arranged for use in prosthetic and orthopedic devices. The liner defines first and second end portions, and inner and outer surfaces. The liner includes an inner layer having a frictional component and forms at least part of the periphery of the inner liner surface. The inner layer defines a plurality of apertures. A porous element is in communication with the inner liner surface and is connected to the inner layer such that the apertures permit a transfer of air from the inner surface to the porous element. A base layer adjoins the porous element and extends between the first and second end portions of the liner.
Methods for bone stabilization
A compression stabilized prosthetic device for a patient having an amputated limb includes a first socket portion for contacting a patient's limb, and a second portion for the attachment of a prosthetic component. The first socket portion has compression portions configured for compressing portions of the patient's limb, and relief portions for receiving other portions of the patient's limb which bulge upon the compression applied by the compression portions. The relief portions may be formed as openings or as enlarged radius portions of the first socket portion.
Suspension liner with seal component
A suspension liner is provided for use as an interface between a residual limb and a prosthetic socket. The liner has an elongate, generally conical liner body formed from at least one material segment that is at least radially elastically extensible from a relaxed non-extended condition and including proximal and distal end areas, and a seal component connected to the liner body and having an exterior surface defining at least one exterior seal protruding from the exterior surface and extending radially outwardly from the seal component relative to a longitudinal axis of the liner body. The at least one interior seal is located along an interior surface of the seal component and defines at least one blade extending obliquely toward the liner body. A portion of the seal component carrying the interior seal extends freely and is movable relative to the liner body.
MEDICAL DEVICE INCLUDING A STRUCTURE BASED ON FILAMENTS
A lattice or solid structure for a medical device includes a first layer of first filaments discretely formed from at least one medical-grade silicone material. The first filaments are arranged in a predetermined pattern and may be directly adjacent to one another or spaced apart. Additional layers of filaments may be provided adjacent to the first layer, and chemically bonded thereto to form an integrated structure that is without interruption or with interstices therebetween.
ADDITIVE MANUFACTURING SYSTEM, METHOD AND CORRESPONDING COMPONENTS FOR MAKING ELASTOMERIC STRUCTURES
A system for additive manufacturing a medical device, the system comprising a first dispensing system, a second dispensing system, a deposition apparatus, and a deposition substrate on a surface of which the deposition apparatus is configured to deposit at least one elastomeric material into a filament. The deposition apparatus receives the at least one elastomeric material from the first and second dispensing systems in proportions effecting a desired property in the medical device. The deposition apparatus may comprise heating and/or cooling elements, a sonic vibration module, and/or a pneumatic suck-back valve. The deposition substrate may have a configuration corresponding to a desired shape of the medical device and is configured to rotate and/or translate relative to the deposition apparatus. The system comprises a controller configured to control the deposition.
Perforated liner
The invention concerns a prosthesis liner for application to a limb stump, with an elastic liner layer (20) of elastomer, wherein the liner layer (20) has pores (26) in at least one distal portion (30) thereof.
LINER FOR A PROSTHESIS
A liner for a prosthesis, wherein the liner is made of a liner material and comprises a proximal opening for accommodating an amputation stump, a distal end, a longitudinal direction, which extends from the proximal opening to the distal end, and an auxetic material The auxetic material is a two-dimensional-auxetic material, which is arranged in such a way that an extension of the liner in the longitudinal direction leads to an expansion of a diameter of the liner.
