Apparatus for applying a compression bandage
11389334 · 2022-07-19 ·

An apparatus for applying a compressive bandage on a residual limb enables a user to apply a compression bandage to his or her residual limb without assistance from a physical therapist or an assistant. As used herein, the compressive bandage serves as a transition layer between a residual limb and a prosthetic device. The apparatus enables a user to apply a compression bandage by simply moving his or her residual limb through the device.

EXPANDABLE WALL PROSTHETIC SOCKET WITH RETENTION RING
20220287858 · 2022-09-15 ·

An expandable wall prosthetic socket configured with at least one retention ring in the socket wall and a telescoping element which interacts with the retention ring to allow the telescoping element to translate inwardly and outwardly through the socket wall, via the retention ring, such that the telescoping element is applying a force on the residual limb.

One embodiment provides for a fixed retention ring that is installed into the side of the socket wall. The retention ring is laminated into or bonded to the layered composite forming the socket wall. A telescoping element is installed through the retention and makes contact with, or is connected to, a force applicator plate. As the telescoping element translates inwardly, the telescoping element makes contact with (or pushes on) the force applicator such that the force applicator produces the load on the residual limb.

Additional embodiments provide for such features as a rotating retention ring, a two part panel with a retention ring and force applicator, and a force applicator designed into a prosthetic silicone liner.

ORTHOPEDIC DEVICE

The invention relates to an orthopedic device comprising a main part with a first surface which is provided with at least one adhesive region. At least one recess is provided in the main part, said at least one recess being at least partly formed behind the adhesive region and being provided with a pressure and/or suction connection. The first surface is designed to be at least partly suctioned into the recess when negative pressure is applied in the at least one recess and or pushed out when positive pressure is applied.

Prosthetic Liner With External Fabric Seal
20220096251 · 2022-03-31 ·

A prosthetic liner for use with a prosthetic socket that has a thermoplastic elastomeric (TPE) layer that is in contact with the amputee's residual limb. The TPE layer is not uniform in thickness but has ridges to extend circumferentially around the TPE layer. A fabric exterior layer covers the outer surface of the TPE layer conforming to the ridges and is used as a substrate to form a mechanical bond to an elastomeric material. Impregnating the elastomeric material within the fabric exterior occurs by applying an uncured material to the fabric exterior layer and onto at least the apex surfaces located within the sealing regions thereby creating an air tight boundary layer when inserted into a socket. When a vacuum is applied the air is evacuated from the volume below the seal layer.

Neural efferent and afferent control of spring equilibrium, damping, and power in backdrivable and non-backdrivable series-elastic actuators comprising variable series stiffness mechanisms

A prosthetic device includes a frame defining an output axis, a cantilever beam spring attached to the frame, a moment arm attached to the spring, and a rigid output arm coupled to the frame and rotatable about the output axis. A connector assembly is configured to apply a moment to the cantilever beam spring via the moment arm while applying a torque about the output axis via the output arm. An ankle-foot device includes foot and ankle members connected for two-degree of freedom movement relative to one another, allowing for rotation about an ankle axis and rotation about a subtalar axis. Two linear actuators, each coupled to corresponding series elastic element, link the foot and ankle members. Driving the actuators in the same direction causes rotation about the ankle axis and driving the actuators in opposing directions causes rotation about the subtalar axis. A processor receives sensory information from a sensor and drives the actuators to control an equilibrium position of the series elastic elements. A rotary actuator for a prosthetic device includes a housing frame, a motor mounted within the housing frame, and a cycloidal drive coupled to the motor within the housing frame. A torsion shaft can extend through the actuator to an output and provide a series elastic element.

FLEXIBLE PROSTHETIC COVER

A prosthetic cover (104) for a prosthetic support element (102) can include a substantially cylindrical hollow body (106) with a first end and a second end and sized to fit around a support element of a prosthesis. A first flexible end seal (108) and a second flexible end seal (110) can each attach with the substantially cylindrical hollow body at the first and second ends, respectively, and connect the hollow body with the support element of the prosthesis by deforming about the support element when the prosthetic cover is installed around the support element.

Prosthetic liner

A prosthetic liner includes a flexible elongate, generally conical body portion formed from an elastomeric material. The body portion defines an inner surface, an outer surface forming a liner profile between a distal end and a proximal end, and an axis extending between the distal and proximal ends. At least one seal element extends circumferentially about the axis and protrudes radially outward a distance from the liner profile. The at least one seal element has a seal height defined between the liner profile and a radially outward end of the at least one seal element. The seal height varies circumferentially about the axis between a first seal height and a second seal height.

Knit Prosthetic Liner Textile With Differentiated Knit Fabric Exterior Incorporating Low Extensibility Strips

A prosthetic liner having a lower longitudinal stretch in the distal region than in either the proximal or optional intermediate region. The distal region may stretch anywhere from 0-30% vertically and 10-200% horizontally as compared to the proximal region's vertical stretch of 55-125% and 100-175% horizontally. The stretch of the liner at various pressure sensitive regions of a residual limb can also be lowered or heightened depending on the area. A variety of stitches may be used at the distal end to implement this lowered longitudinal stretch. Preferably, the liner is made of a stretchable material. The liner also has an interior layer of elastomer gel. The design of this prosthetic liner is primarily to prevent the “pistoning” of the amputee's residual limb within the liner and for comfort over pressure-sensitive areas of the residual limb. The liner also includes the use of a low extensibility material which is adhered to the fabric portion of a prosthetic liner or orthotic liner either internally or externally and limits the longitudinal movement while allowing for transversal movement. The customizable nature of the invention allows for shaping and personalization depending on the needs of the user.
