Neural Efferent and Afferent Control of Spring Equilibrium, Damping, and Power in Backdrivable and Non-Backdrivable Series-Elastic Actuators Comprising Variable Series Stiffness Mechanisms
A prosthetic device includes a frame defining an output axis, a cantilever beam spring attached to the frame, a moment arm attached to the spring, and a rigid output arm coupled to the frame and rotatable about the output axis. A connector assembly is configured to apply a moment to the cantilever beam spring via the moment arm while applying a torque about the output axis via the output arm. An ankle-foot device includes foot and ankle members connected for two-degree of freedom movement relative to one another, allowing for rotation about an ankle axis and rotation about a subtalar axis. Two linear actuators, each coupled to corresponding series elastic element, link the foot and ankle members. Driving the actuators in the same direction causes rotation about the ankle axis and driving the actuators in opposing directions causes rotation about the subtalar axis. A processor receives sensory information from a sensor and drives the actuators to control an equilibrium position of the series elastic elements. A rotary actuator for a prosthetic device includes a housing frame, a motor mounted within the housing frame, and a cycloidal drive coupled to the motor within the housing frame. A torsion shaft can extend through the actuator to an output and provide a series elastic element.
Electromyography Sensor
An electromyography (EMG) sensor for a wearable device, such as a prosthetic device attachable to a residual limb, includes a flexible substrate comprising an elongated portion and an electrode portion. At least two electrodes are disposed at a surface of the electrode portion of the flexible substrate, and leads from the at least two electrodes extend through the elongated portion of the flexible substrate.
Apparatus for Applying a Compression Bandage
The inventive apparatus disclosed herein enables a user to apply a compression bandage to his or her residual limb without assistance from a physical therapist or an assistant. As used herein, the compressive bandage serves as a as a transition layer between a residual limb and a prosthetic device. The inventive apparatus enables a user to apply a compression bandage by simply moving his or her residual limb through the device.

The movable part is configured to be connected with the drive output part and is capable of moving under a drive of the drive output part. The drive rope is configured to be disposed in the finger part and connected with the movable part and is capable of converting a movement of the movable part into a motion of the finger part.
Prosthetic Liner With External Fabric Seal
A prosthetic liner for use with a prosthetic socket that has a thermoplastic elastomeric (TPE) layer that is in contact with the amputee's residual limb. The TPE layer is not uniform in thickness but has ridges to extend circumferentially around the TPE layer. A fabric exterior layer covers the outer surface of the TPE layer conforming to the ridges and is used as a substrate to form a mechanical bond to an elastomeric material. Impregnating the elastomeric material within the fabric exterior occurs by applying an uncured material to the fabric exterior layer and onto at least the apex surfaces located within the sealing regions thereby creating an air tight boundary layer when inserted into a socket. When a vacuum is applied the air is evacuated from the volume below the seal layer.
LINER SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR APPLYING A LINER SYSTEM
A liner system for applying to a limb or a limb stump, with an inner liner comprising an inner side facing the limb or limb stump and an outer side facing away from the limb or limb stump, and an outer liner that comprises an inner side facing the inner liner and an outer side facing away from the inner liner. The outer liner is designed to be applied over the inner liner, with a sealing element which is designed to be separate from the inner liner and the outer liner, for arranging between the outer side of the inner liner and the inner side of the outer liner.

Ventilated prosthetic liner
A prosthetic liner has a ventilated structure communicating with an interior volume to an exterior of the prosthetic liner, thereby permitting a transfer of air and moisture therebetween. The prosthetic liner includes a facing layer defining a periphery of at least part of the interior volume of the liner, and forming a plurality of apertures extending therethrough. A cushion layer is juxtaposed to the facing layer and forms a lattice structure including a plurality of interstices in communication with the apertures of the facing layer.
ELECTRICALLY DRIVEN ARTIFICIAL ARM AND METHOD OF USE
Disclosed is a prosthesis for a person with an amputation below the elbow to provide a replacement for at least a lower arm of the person. The prosthesis includes a receiving sleeve adapted to be attached to a stump of the person such that the stump can move the receiving sleeve. An electromechanical hand is attached to the receiving sleeve, the electromechanical hand having a rotary mechanism, a control unit, at least one finger and at least one motor. The rotary mechanism includes a potentiometer having a shaft in communication with the receiving sleeve such that a displacement of the receiving sleeve causes a corresponding rotation of the shaft of the potentiometer. The control unit is configured to measure the corresponding rotation of the shaft of the potentiometer and send a signal to the at least one motor to actuate the at least one finger.
APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR PROTECTING POST-AMPUTATION RESIDUUM
An apparatus for protecting a post-amputation residuum comprises a shell defining a hollow interior cavity adapted for receiving and covering a distal portion of the residuum. The shell has an opening into the cavity at the distal end. A proximal portion of a compression sleeve is adapted to be disposed over at least a portion of the residuum. A free distal portion of the sleeve is configured to extend through the opening in the shell. The sleeve everts upon application of a longitudinal force to the distal portion of the sleeve in a proximal direction for folding over and covering the shell. The distal portion of the sleeve extends proximally of the shell to a position at least partially along the proximal portion of the sleeve for compressing the shell inwardly toward the residuum.
