Methods and apparatus for improved interface between the human body and prosthetic or similar devices
Apparatus is provided to cushion between a prosthetic socket and an amputee's residual limb. A plurality of putty-filled packets are assembled into a liner that, when assembled, provides a generally smooth contact surface toward the residual limb. At least one of the packets has a fluid bladder positioned between the putty material and the socket, and the fluid volume in the bladder can be adjusted to affect the fit of the assembly on the residual limb. Methods of fabrication, fitting, and use of such prosthetic devices are disclosed.
BREATHABLE RESIDUAL-LIMB SOCKET SYSTEM
Breathable residual-limb system that admits air and allows sweat to evaporate from the surface of the residual limb. In an embodiment, the system comprises a liner sock to be worn on the residual limb, and comprising air-permeable textile forming a substantially cylindrical portion that is closed on a distal end and open on a proximal end and comprising an internal surface and an external surface. The liner sock further comprises a friction-interface material that covers only a portion of the internal surface of the air-permeable textile, such that, when worn on the residual limb, the friction-interface material contacts a surface of the residual limb, and an uncovered portion of the air-permeable textile which the friction-interface material does not cover allows air to pass between an external environment of the liner sock and the surface of the residual limb.
VENTILATED PROSTHETIC LINER
A prosthetic liner has a ventilated structure communicating with an interior volume to an exterior of the prosthetic liner, thereby permitting a transfer of air and moisture therebetween. The prosthetic liner includes a facing layer defining a periphery of at least part of the interior volume of the liner, and forming a plurality of apertures extending therethrough. A cushion layer is juxtaposed to the facing layer and forms a lattice structure including a plurality of interstices in communication with the apertures of the facing layer.
Dry Absorbent Layer System
The present invention relates to absorbent articles for solving the problem of stopping the excessive accumulations of sweat from building up inside a prosthetic liner. The four layers of materials include: a first layer of a cellulose pulp material having a thickness use for a desired absorbency, a second layer of a wicking cloth material having a thickness use for a desired absorbency, a third layer of a non-toxic double side adhesive tape material one side will stick to both layer, and a fourth layer that is the opposite side which are cover with paper material that can be peeled from the third layer to adhere the inside of a prosthetic liner base sheet to stop the excessive accumulation build-up of sweating.
Skeletal Stabilization Liner System
A liner system for reducing motion of a skeletal structure within a limb is described. The liner system includes a liner adapted to be worn over the limb and one or more shims adapted to be pre-placed along a length of the skeletal structure of the limb prior to donning the liner on the limb. The one or more shims each have a durometer, a radial thickness, a width, and a longitudinal dimension configured to compress a target area of soft tissue against the skeletal structure such that motion of the skeletal structure towards a wall of the shim is reduced.
ADJUSTABLE SEAL SYSTEM, SEAL COMPONENT AND METHOD FOR USING THE SAME
An adjustable seal system, seal component for use in the system, and method are provided for forming a sealing interface between a residual limb and a prosthetic socket. The seal component is selectively placed over the outer surface of a suspension liner including a plurality of seal bands, which the seal component may removably and securely engage.
METHOD FOR PRODUCING AN ORTHOPEDIC DEVICE
A method for producing an orthopedic device, wherein the method comprises: providing a main body of the orthopedic device that comprises at least one volume that can be filled with a fluid, at least one supply line to this volume, and a flexible and/or elastic material in at least some sections of the main body in which there is no volume that can be filled with a fluid, arranging the main body on a body part of a patient, at least partially filling the volume with a curable fluid, and curing the curable fluid.
Prosthetic socket sealing system
A prosthetic socket system includes a distal seal positionable between an interior surface of a prosthetic socket defining a pin bore and a distal end of a prosthetic liner carrying an attachment pin arranged to extend through the pin bore. The distal seal includes a base proximate to the attachment pin and defining an opening configured to receive and surround the attachment pin, a sealing portion extending distally from an outer radial portion of the base, and a variable clearance defined between the sealing portion and the base. The sealing portion is adapted to form a seal around the attachment pin and prevent fluid flow through the pin bore by deflecting relative to the base when the sealing portion engages the interior surface of the prosthetic socket.
VIBRATORY DEVICES FOR PHANTOM LIMB PAIN
A prosthetic device includes a flexible interface configured to conform to a residual limb of a user, a prosthetic socket including an outer shell more rigid than the flexible interface and positioned external to at least a portion of the flexible interface, and one or more vibrational devices placed in connection with the flexible interface to impart vibration to the residual limb.
PROSTHETIC LIMB SLEEVE
A sleeve for mounting a prosthetic unit on a limb is formed using a tripartite composite that includes a breathable woven fabric in combination with an elastic urethane middle layer and a soft perforated plastic inner layer. The middle layer can be a hyper-elastic polymer that is cured to a hemispherical shape to stretch and move while maintaining a shape memory that returns the polymer to its original shape once relieved of a stretching force. Moreover, the liner/prosthetic sleeve of the present invention's anatomical suspension works as an advantage to maintain its placement on the user's residual limb.
