CONFIGURABLE ORTHOSIS AND METHOD OF DEFINITIVE ORTHOTIC DESIGN, FABRICATION AND VALIDATION

Configurable orthoses having a high degree of independent adjustability of various parameters are provided. In the example of a rehabilitation-evaluation ankle-foot orthosis (REAFO), these parameters may include calf band anteroposterior, height, width, sagittal tilt, coronal tilt, and mediolateral displacement adjustments; mediolateral displacement adjustments of a supramalleolar support; heel width/stirrup separation adjustment; and sagittal active joint resistance and neutral angle adjustments. Calf band mediolateral displacement adjustment may be provided by a lockable four-bar pivoting frame linkage of the REAFO. In one aspect, the configurable orthosis is used in conjunction with a plastically deformable precursor member to facilitate the design and manufacture of a definitive orthosis customized for a particular patient. In another aspect, the orthosis communicatively transmits limb shape data to either a positive shape receiver apparatus or a CAD/CAM apparatus, to facilitate design and manufacture of a definitive orthosis.

JOINT DEVICE

A joint device of an orthosis with an upper part and with a lower part that is arranged on the upper part in an articulated manner, with a first fastening device for securing the upper part to a patient and a second fastening device for securing the lower part to a limb, wherein the joint device connects the upper part to the lower part in an articulated manner and has an upper part binding and a lower part binding via which the upper part and the lower part can be secured to the fastening devices, wherein the joint device has at least four degrees of freedom.

Swing training device

A swing training device has an upper cuff for removably receiving an upper arm of a user and a lower cuff for removably receiving a lower arm of the user. A hinge connects the cuffs, which are movable about the hinge and relative to each other between an extended position and a retracted position. An elastic member biases the cuffs toward the extended position. The device may be utilized for medical uses, such as for rehabilitation or strengthening exercises.

JOINT SUPPORT UNIT AND WALKING SUPPORT APPARATUS

To provide a joint support unit, etc. capable of being worn on both left and right joints. A joint support unit includes a first link worn on one end side of a joint portion, a second link worn on the other end side of the joint portion, and rotatably coupled to the first link, a driving unit configured to perform rotation driving of the second link, and a rotation regulating unit configured to regulate a rotation direction and a rotation range of the second link. The rotation regulating unit includes an engagement body provided in one of the links, and an engagement part provided in the other one of the links, and engaging with the engagement body, the engagement part includes two guiding paths and that guide the engagement body moving according to the rotation direction of the second link in different directions, and a communication path.

Global osteoarthritis knee brace

A global osteoarthritis knee brace or orthopedic support includes a flexible, elastic sleeve having a tubular shape with a patella opening at an anterior surface with slits on either side of the opening. The brace includes a first pair of rigid longitudinal stiffeners pivoted therebetween at a hinge that is disposed at the lateral or medial side of the sleeve. The brace further includes an adjustable patella support having elongated strips at the ends thereof, wherein the patella support is positioned in the interior of the sleeve proximate with the patella opening, where the elongated strips pass from the interior of the sleeve through the slits to the exterior of the sleeve, and extend upward to be anchored to the sleeve. The wearer pulling on the elongated strips adjusts the patella support to lift the patella.

TENDON ROUTING SYSTEM FOR TRANSMISSION OF RESTORATIVE FORCES IN A BRACE

An energy storing brace to be worn on a limb of a user may include a primary frame and a secondary frame pivotally connected to the primary frame. An energy storage assembly may include a spring member that is spaced apart from the first hinge and the second hinge. A first energized cord path may extend from the first hinge to the energy storage assembly. A tensioning cord may extend from a first anchor section secured relative to the first primary arm, across a first peripheral surface and through the first energized cord path to the spring member. Pivoting the brace from an extended position toward a flexed position may cause (i) the first extension member to exert a tension force on the first cord segment thereby loading the spring member and the spring member applies a restorative spring force to urge the brace to return to the extended position.

Orthotic joint devices, joint device components, and methods

Various orthotic joint devices, components, and methods are provided. These include orthotic joint alignment devices for adjusting a neutral or fixed angle of an orthotic joint device independently of other parameters, orthotic joint devices providing staged resistance through staged recruitment of separate springs or initiation of staged spring-rate behavior of a single spring retained in a joint body, adapters for converting non-staged resistance orthotic joint devices into orthotic joint devices, and low-noise orthotic joint devices with intermittent normal force-transmitting contact associated with resistive or assistive forces provided by the devices, and methods of using the devices and components.

ASSISTIVE ORTHOTIC DEVICE WITH MOTORS AND SENSORS

A motorized tensioning mechanism for orthotic devices, such as a knee brace, wherein the controls for the motorized tensioning mechanism may be manual, automatic, or a hybrid of both. Sensors associated with the orthotic device may inform the user regarding tension or other aspects of the device, and, in cases, may automatically adjust tension in the motorized tensioning mechanism.
