Unloading knee brace apparatus
10806619 · 2020-10-20 · ·

An adjustable tension knee brace for unloading weight from a knee joint afflicted with osteoarthritis, thus reducing pain and improving mobility, comprising: an upper and lower rigid posterior portion, anterior straps, and a tension adjustable geared hinge assembly. Four embodiments are disclosed of hinge assemblies useable with the knee brace, or other types of braces. The hinge assemblies comprise: two subunits housing intermeshed gears, and at least one elastic band extending between the hinge subunits over a cam surface above the gears. In three embodiments, U-shaped connectors secure the subunits and gears together, and the subunits may comprise a user mechanism that adjusts the elastic band's tension and thus the amount of weight unloaded, then releases it. Another embodiment comprises a core bracket to protect the band(s) and a mechanism to compress the elastic band at various points to increase the amount of tension, and with a quick release mechanism.

LOWER LIMB ORTHOSIS

An orthosis for a lower limb is provided. In one aspect, the orthosis is comprised of a shell that is portioned and dimensioned so as to be in close proximity to an anatomical limb. The shell has a leg portion, a foot portion, and a heel portion, the leg portion being fitted over the anterior surface of the leg, the foot portion being fitted over the dorsal surface of the foot, and the heel portion being fitted over the surface of the heel and adapted to lift the heel when a force is applied to the leg portion. The orthosis impedes dorsiflexion and permits plantarflexion.

Shoulder Brace

An apparatus and methods for making for shoulder orthoses, which can control the position of the humeral head/arm relative to the shoulder joint by adjusting tension across the joint. The orthoses allows the user to modify the direction and magnitude of force applied while wearing the orthosis. The orthosis may contain cams or extensions to direct and amplify the force around the joint towards a specific range of motion. The orthoses can be made from digitally imaging joints and then partially or fully automating the design of orthosis.

HAND ORTHOSIS, MODULE MEMBER FOR USING IN A HAND ORTHOSIS, AND METHOD FOR PRODUCING A HAND ORTHOSIS
20200281798 · 2020-09-10 · ·

A hand orthosis for bending and/or stretching at least one finger of a patient's hand, comprising a force-introducing device fastened to a splint, which is coupled with at least one finger segment paired with the finger of the patient's hand, wherein the at least one finger segment comprises a plurality of modular members interconnected in an articulated manner. The modular members each have at least one bayonet link on a first front side and at least one bayonet hook, corresponding to the bayonet link, on a second front side for the formation of a bayonet connection between adjacent modular members providing a bayonet joint. In addition, the invention relates to a modular member for using in a hand orthosis and a method of producing a hand orthosis.

Joint for rehabilitation device

A joint for a rehabilitation device and a rehabilitation device are disclosed. The joint is defined for operation between an end of a first member and an end of a second member. The joint enables the second member to pivot at the joint with respect to the first member. The joint includes a positioning mechanism for defining a set position from which the second member pivots. The joint also includes a restriction mechanism for restricting the degree of pivoting of the second member, from the set position. The joint further includes a biasing mechanism for biasing the second member such that it returns to the set position when an opposing force applied to the second member is less than the bias of the biasing mechanism. When the joint is in the set position, the biasing mechanism is configured such that no bias is applied to the second member.

ORTHOPEDIC DEVICE HAVING A DYNAMIC CONTROL SYSTEM

An orthopedic device has first and second struts connected to one another by a hinge system, and includes a dynamic control system and a counterforce system. The dynamic control system includes first and second dynamic components arranged on a first side of the orthopedic device to exert first and second dynamic forces according to a flexion angle of the hinge system. A counterforce system is located on a second side of the orthopedic device to counteract the first and second dynamic forces with at least one counterforce.

MOVEMENT RESTRAINING DEVICE

Movement restraining device (1) for partially immobilizing a body joint (10) facilitating rotation of a body part (20) about a joint axis (40). The device comprises a) a first stopper element (50) having an abutment surface (70); b) a second stopper element (60), comprising an abutting surface (100), pivotable, relative to the first stopper element. The second stopper element can be pivoted into an abutting pivot position, in which position the abutting surface is in surface contact with the abutment surface; c) skin attachment means (90) for attaching the stopper elements to skin at the body joint; and d) electrical contact elements (310, 320), connectable to an indicator device for providing an indication when the contact elements are in electrical contact with each other. The first contact element can be brought into electrical contact with the second contact element by pivoting the second stopper element into the abutting pivot position.

Power transmitting device, motion assistance apparatus, and method of controlling the motion assistance apparatus

Provided is a power transmitting device including an input side gear assembly that includes a single power input terminal and two power output terminals, an output side gear assembly that includes two power input terminals and a single power output terminal, the two power input terminals configured to operate using power received from the two power output terminals of the input side gear assembly, respectively, and a stopper module configured to block power to be transmitted through one of two power transmitting paths connecting the two power output terminals of the input side gear assembly and the two power input terminals of the output side gear assembly.

Device for, and method of, protecting knees from external forces
10744021 · 2020-08-18 ·

The solution to protecting the human knee from external forces is to surround the knee with a brace that includes adjustable air bladders to absorb external forces before the external forces pass into the knee and cause internal knee injury. Such a brace includes a pair of struts that are bifurcated by hinges, the adjustable air bladders placed between the knee and the hinges.
