Heater for fitting orthoses to individual body joint

An orthosis is fitted to a body joint, in a preferred embodiment the equine fetlock, by locating the center of rotation (COR) of the joint; measuring the bones comprising the joint at points located with respect to the COR; selecting the appropriate orthosis from a selection of models thereof; and custom-fitting the orthosis to the individual by heating it to soften a layer of thermoformable foam on the interior of the orthosis, and clamping the orthosis in place over the body joint. A kit of tools for performing the measurements is disclosed, as are a method for location of the COR of the body joint by palpation and a preferred heater.

Example embodiments of the brace assembly are provided that utilize an elastic cross strap attached to mounting facilities about a joint to provide dynamic forces on a joint. In some embodiments for a knee joint, the brace assembly provides an offloading force to offload forces put on the knee. Some embodiments of the brace assembly further comprise adjusting facilities to accommodate different joints, different size wearers of the assembly and different tension settings to give different therapeutic effects. Some embodiments of the brace assembly may further include cross straps to provide training strap features for the wearer. Some embodiments of the brace assembly may provide patella stabilizing features.

Athlete finger guard

A guard for protecting a finger without interfering with athletic performance, having a rigid core that protects the finger from hyperextension and impact injuries. The guard has a proximal segment and a distal segment, each having a top surface, and a hinge assembly attached and extending above the top surfaces of the distal segment and proximal segment. The hinge assembly allows the distal segment to vary in position between a minimum position and a maximum position while remaining out of the way of adjacent fingers. The guard securely engages the finger by a distal strap that secures to a distal part of the finger, and a proximal strap that secures to a proximal part of the finger. The proximal part has sides that extend alongside the finger, and the distal segment only extends along the superior surface of the finger toward but not reaching the fingertip.

Ankle foot tensioned orthosis

An orthosis for supporting a human ankle joint is described. The orthosis may include a foot section and a tibial section, with a tensioning mechanism configured to adjust the tension between the foot section and the tibial section in order to change the range of motion of the joint. Methods for assembling and using an orthosis are also described.

APPARATUS FOR DAMPING INVOLUNTARY HAND MOTIONS

An apparatus for damping involuntary hand motions occurring in at least first and second directions is provided, the first direction being opposite the second direction. The apparatus is securable to a hand and a forearm and comprises at least a first body having a terminal movable in an internal space in the body. The body contains a Non-Newtonian fluid. A link connects the terminal to a first portion of the apparatus.

TILTABLE ARTICULATED JOINT BRACE

The invention relates to a tiltable joint brace for a joint orthesis, comprising: two articulated limbs pivotably mounted on each other in a bearing arrangement, wherein the head of the first articulated limb supports a bearing arrangement which can be connected to the head of the second articulated limb by non-positive and positive fit in order to form the pivot joint. A curved sliding surface is formed on the bearing arrangement, and the head rests on the curved sliding surface with positive fit. There, the second articulated limb can tilt freely toward the pivot axis of the joint brace against the first articulated limb.
