Provided is an assist device, including a lumbar orthosis, a buttock orthosis, an ankle orthosis, a leg frame and an assist mechanism. In response to a user's bending and stretching motions, the assist mechanism applies an assist force to the user's body by operating the leg frame and separating the lumbar orthosis and the buttock orthosis from the ankle orthosis. The ankle orthosis includes a front locking part and a back locking part configured to be locked to the user's lower leg, as well as an instep abutting part and a heel abutting part abutting against the user's foot from above.

Global osteoarthritis knee brace

A global osteoarthritis knee brace or orthopedic support includes a flexible, elastic sleeve having a tubular shape with a patella opening at an anterior surface with slits on either side of the opening. The brace includes a first pair of rigid longitudinal stiffeners pivoted therebetween at a hinge that is disposed at the lateral or medial side of the sleeve. The brace further includes an adjustable patella support having elongated strips at the ends thereof, wherein the patella support is positioned in the interior of the sleeve proximate with the patella opening, where the elongated strips pass from the interior of the sleeve through the slits to the exterior of the sleeve, and extend upward to be anchored to the sleeve. The wearer pulling on the elongated strips adjusts the patella support to lift the patella.

Stabilizing system for a knee brace

A knee brace for assisting the extension or flexing of a limb comprises substantially rigid upper and lower frames connected by a hinge, the upper frame being secured to the leg by an upper strap. A stabilizing strap for fixing the lower frame to the user's leg comprises an inelastic band, cord or other flexible securing member for circumscribing the user's leg having a fastening element for fixing the securing member in a set position. The securing member is affixed to the arms of the lower frame, slidably extending through at least one strap support provided by at least one of the arms of the lower frame. When the brace is in position on a user's leg the stabilizing strap is able to move through at least one strap support in a generally horizontal direction while supporting the lower frame in the vertical direction.

Orthopedic device for dynamically treating the knee

An orthopedic device includes a hinge assembly, a frame having first and second frame components spaced apart from and connected to one another by the hinge assembly, a strap system extending between medial and lateral sides of the first frame component, and at least one tensioning element. The at least one tensioning element has a first end secured to the strap system and a second end coupled to the hinge assembly. Articulation of the hinge assembly pulls the strap system toward the frontal plane by the at least one tensioning element.

Device and methods for movement assistance

Assistive movement devices and methods therefor are provided that are capable of redirecting loads from an individual's foot to hip when an individual is recovering from an injury at or below the knee. The devices include a frame assembly comprising an upper member, a lower member, and a joint therebetween. An upper attachment is secured to the upper member and is configured to be secured to the thigh of the individual's leg, and a lower attachment is secured to the lower member or the base and is configured to be secured to a portion of the leg below a knee thereof. A base is secured to the lower member and is configured to support a foot of the leg, and the device adjustably redirects at least a portion of a load resulting from the individual standing and walking from the base to the upper attachment.

Tools and methods for fitting orthoses

An orthosis is fitted to a body joint, in a preferred embodiment the equine fetlock, by locating the center of rotation (COR) of the joint; measuring the bones comprising the joint at points located with respect to the COR; selecting the appropriate orthosis from a selection of models thereof; and custom-fitting the orthosis to the individual by heating it to soften a layer of thermoformable foam on the interior of the orthosis and clamping the orthosis in place over the body joint. A kit of tools for performing the measurements is disclosed, as are a method for location of the COR of the body joint by palpation and a preferred heater.
