Obtaining and Displaying Histogram and/or Confidence of Intra-Operative Refraction and/or IOL Power Recommendation

In order to take advantage of the real time nature of intra-operative refraction or wavefront aberrometry, and visually make the history of the measurements apparent to a surgeon, a histogram of frequency vs IOL results calculated from an IOL formula is computed and IOL suggestions being accumulated are displayed in a histogram. One embodiment is a means to present to a surgeon a histogram of intra-operative refractions. Another embodiment is to automatically and intra-operatively detect the aphakic phase of a cataract surgery to display a histogram of a recommended IOL power.

Real-Time Laser Modulation And Delivery In Ophthalmic Devices For Scanning, Imaging, And Laser Treatment Of The Eye

Systems and methods of real-time laser control and modulation for ophthalmic devices are described. The systems and methods can be used for precise laser delivery at sub-micron resolution in both laser treatment and scan imaging processes. In various embodiments, the systems can include a laser delivery device useful for surgical eye treatment, a laser delivery device useful for an ophthalmic scan imaging device, or both. In one embodiment, the system includes a laser surgery device integrated with a scan-based ophthalmic imaging apparatus. In such an embodiment, an eye motion signal obtained from the imaging apparatus can be used to provide fine-tuned control of the operation of the surgical laser beam in the laser surgery device.

OPERATOR-CONTROLLED SCANNING LASER PROCEDURE DESIGNED FOR LARGE-AREA EPITHELIUM REMOVAL

Systems and methods for removing an epithelial layer disposed over a stromal layer in a cornea irradiate a region of the epithelial layer with a pulsed beam of ablative radiation. The ablative radiation is scanned to vary the location of the beam within the region in accordance with a pulse sequence. The pulse sequence is arranged to enhance optical feedback based on a tissue fluorescence of the epithelial layer. The penetration of the epithelial layer is detected in response to the optical feedback. The use of scanning with the pulse sequence arranged to enhance optical feedback allows large areas of the epithelium to be ablated such penetration of the epithelial layer can be detected.

Wavefront measurements of eyes are often taken when the pupil is in a first configuration in an evaluation context. The results can be represented by a set of basis function coefficients. Prescriptive treatments are often applied in a treatment context, which is different from the evaluation context. Hence, the patient pupil can be in a different, second configuration, during treatment. Systems and methods are provided for determining a transformed set of basis function coefficients, based on a difference between the first and second configurations, which can be used to establish the vision treatment.

MULTI-PHOTON ABSORPTION FOR FEMTOSECOND MICROMACHINING AND REFRACTIVE INDEX MODIFICATION OF TISSUES

By adapting femtosecond micromachining approaches developed in hydrogels, we can perform Intra-tissue Refractive Index Shaping (IRIS) in biological tissues. We reduced femtosecond laser pulse energies below the optical breakdown thresholds to create grating patterns that are associated with a change in the refractive index of the tissue. To increase two-photon absorption, we used a two (or more)-photon-absorbing chromophore.
