Photodynamic Therapy Technique For Preventing Damage To The Fovea Of The Eye Or Another Body Portion Of A Patient
A photodynamic therapy technique for preventing damage to the fovea of the eye or another body portion of a patient is disclosed herein. In one embodiment, a treatment laser is applied to a body portion of a patient using a painting technique, the treatment laser being configured to provide paint brush-type photodynamic therapy (PPDT) using the painting technique to the body portion of the patient by emitting light of a predetermined wavelength that is absorbed by tissue of the body portion of the patient to which a photosensitizer has been applied, the body portion of the patient being afflicted by a medical condition. The application of the treatment laser to the body portion of a patient using the painting technique treats the medical condition, reduces the symptoms associated with the medical condition, and/or alleviates the medical condition.
Vision correction with laser refractive index changes

Microscope
A microscope, comprising an observation beam path that renders an eye to be examined observable, a wavefront measuring device for measuring the refraction of the eye to be examined, an OCT device comprising an OCT illumination beam path, by means of which OCT illumination radiation can be focused as an OCT spot into the eye to be examined, and a control unit that is supplied with at least one measurement value of the wave front measuring device, is provided, wherein the control unit sets the beam diameter and/or the beam shape of the OCT spot on the basis of the at least one supplied measurement value.
Method of treating, reducing, or alleviating a medical condition in a patient
A method of treating, reducing, or alleviating a medical condition in a patient is disclosed herein. The method includes administering to a patient in need thereof a biocompatible drug comprising one or more antiviral medications together with one or more cell pathway inhibitors dissolved in a non-toxic semifluorinated alkane, the patient having one or more respiratory tract inflammatory diseases, the one or more cell pathway inhibitors blocking an inflammatory response of inflamed tissue without inhibiting an immune response of the patient, and the semifluorinated alkane evaporating quickly upon administration to the patient so as to leave the biocompatible drug at a desired treatment location. The administration of the biocompatible drug to the patient treats the one or more respiratory tract inflammatory diseases, reduces the symptoms associated with the one or more respiratory tract inflammatory diseases, and/or alleviates one or more respiratory tract inflammatory diseases.
METHODS FOR PREVENTING AND TREATING OCULAR DISEASE
Methods for preventing and/or treating ocular diseases such as dry age-related macular degeneration, and/or improving or maintaining a retinal function, include administering non-invasive photobiomodulation light therapy in the context of a prior PBM treatment, on the basis of a patient pre-treatment characteristic. In some embodiments, methods comprise administering PBM therapy to subjects prior to onset of, or in early stages of, dry age-related macular degeneration.
SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR TREATING OCULAR DISEASE WITH AN INTRAOCULAR LENS AND REFRACTIVE INDEX WRITING
Systems and methods for improving vision of a subject implanted with an intraocular lens (IOL). In some embodiments, a method of treating an ocular disease of a subject having an implanted intraocular lens (IOL) includes determining visual needs of a subject that are associated with an ocular disease of the subject determining a pattern of a plurality of pulses of radiation to apply, by refractive index writing, and applying the plurality of pulses of radiation to the one or more selected areas of the IOL.
SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR HIGH SPEED MODULATION OF A RESONANT SCANNER IN OPHTHALMIC LASER APPLICATIONS
An ophthalmic surgical laser system includes: a laser that produces a pulsed laser beam having a pulse energy and pulse repetition rate; a high frequency fast scanner; an XY-scan device; a Z-scan device; and a controller. The controller controls the high frequency scanner to produce a scan line having a scan width; controls the XY-scan device and the Z-scan device to carry out of first sweep of the scan line in a first sweep direction and to carry out a second sweep of the scan line in a second sweep direction that is not parallel to the first sweep direction thereby defining an overlap region. At least one of the pulse energy, repetition rate, XY-scan speed, and the scan width is varied so as to accelerate the cutting speed and reduce the exposure of ophthalmic tissue in the overlap region to multiple exposures of laser pulses configured to modify ophthalmic tissue.
Method of corneal transplantation or corneal inlay implantation with cross-linking
A method of corneal implantation with cross-linking is disclosed herein. In one or more embodiments, the method includes the steps of: (i) forming a flap in a cornea of an eye so as to expose a stromal tissue of the cornea underlying the flap; (ii) pivoting the flap so as to expose the stromal tissue of the cornea underlying the flap; (iii) inserting an implant under the flap so as to overlie the stromal tissue of the cornea; (iv) applying laser energy and/or microwaves to the implant in the eye so as to modify the refractive power of the implant; (v) applying a cross-linking solution that includes a photosensitizer to the implant; (vi) covering the implant with the flap; and (vii) irradiating the implant so as to activate cross-linkers in the implant, and thereby cross-link the implant and the stromal tissue of the cornea surrounding the implant.
Method Of Corneal Transplantation Or Corneal Inlay Implantation With Cross-Linking
A method of corneal implantation with cross-linking is disclosed herein. In one or more embodiments, the method includes the steps of: (i) prior to implantation, treating an implant formed from donor corneal tissue or a tissue culture grown corneal stroma with a solution of sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS), Triton X-100, benzalkonium chloride (BAK), Igepal, genipin, 100% glycerol, or alcohol for making the implant acellular, and for killing any bacteria, viruses, or parasites prior to implantation; (ii) implanting the implant into a recipient cornea; (iii) applying laser energy to the implant so as to modify the refractive power of the implant while being monitored using a Shack-Hartmann wavefront system so as to achieve a desired refractive power for the implant; and (iv) applying a cross-linking solution and irradiating the implant to cross-link the implant to prevent an immune response to the implant and/or rejection of the implant by a patient.
