PROJECTION OF DEFOCUSED IMAGES ON THE PERIPHERAL RETINA TO TREAT REFRACTIVE ERROR

An apparatus to treat refractive error of the eye comprises one or more optics configured to project stimuli comprising out of focus images onto the peripheral retina outside the macula. While the stimuli can be configured in many ways, in some embodiments the stimuli are arranged to decrease interference with central vison such as macular vision. The stimuli can be out of focus images may comprise an amount of defocus within a range from about 3 Diopters (“D”) to about 6 D. In some embodiments, the brightness of the stimuli is greater than a brightness of background illumination by an appropriate amount such as at least 3 times the background brightness. In some embodiments, each of a plurality of stimuli comprises a spatial frequency distribution with an amplitude profile having spatial frequencies within a range from about range of 1×10.sup.−1 to 2.5×10.sup.1 cycles per degree.

LASER METHOD, DEVICE AND SYSTEM FOR TREATING RETINAL DETACHMENT

A method of integrating or fusing at least a part of a retina and at least one of a retinal pigmented epithelium (RPE) and choroid underlying the retina and the RPE is disclosed. The method comprises photodehydrating at least some proximal fluid separating one or more of the retina, the RPE and the underlying choroid, with photodehydrating laser light to thereby allow direct contact between the retina and at least one or more of the RPE and choroid. The method further comprises drying at least some of the proximal fluid with a gas flowing at a rate of up to 200 ml/min and photocoagulating with photocoagulating laser light to thereby integrate or fuse at least part of the retina with one or both of the RPE and choroid. Also provided are a device and a system for integrating or fusing these tissues.

Provided herein is a probe for treating an eye of a patient. In one or more embodiments, the probe includes a body, and a tubular element having a main lumen extending from the body, the tubular element comprising a distal end. The probe further includes a visualization optical fiber within the main lumen, the visualization optical fiber adapted to emit an illumination provided by at least one of a plurality of light sources connected to the visualization optical fiber. In some embodiments, the probe further includes an optical switching system (e.g., a time-division multiplexor) operable with the plurality of light sources, wherein the optical switching system is adapted to independently control each of the plurality of light sources. By providing time-division multiplexing between different surgical light sources, quasi-simultaneous illumination delivery through the same optical path may be achieved.

System and method for directing light into a patients eye

Disorders of the eye can be treated by photobiomodulation therapy according to a device designed to direct light into a patient's eye, no matter the configuration of the eye. The device, including a printed circuit board that includes an array of light delivery devices and a heat sink lens, can be placed proximal to the patient's eye. The light delivery devices can be powered to generate light. The light can be directed into the patient's eye regardless of a position of the patient's eye.

Photobiomedulation therapy (PBMT) can be applied to the eye to treat optical neuritis, a sign of multiple sclerosis (MS). The light of PBMT can be directed into the eye, regardless of the position of the eye, by a device that includes an array of light delivery devices and a heat sink lens. The device can be placed proximal to the eye to direct the light into the eye. The light can have one or more wavelengths from 400-1100 nm and can be applied in at least one of a pulsed operating mode, a continuous operating mode, and a super-pulsed operating mode through the light source device to the skeletal muscle. The light signal is applied for a time sufficient to stimulate a phototherapeutic response in the retina and/or the optic nerve. PBMT applied in this manner provides a noninvasive, safe and effective treatment for optic neuritis.

In some embodiments, a pre-treatment evaluation method using electroretinography (ERG) data may be used to predict effects of treatment beams at different power values and to determine optimal power values.
