System and method for donning and labeling a body cast
10568774 · 2020-02-25 ·

A system and method for donning and labeling a body cast provides a protective body cast that is labeled. The system and method provides a protective body cast that forms padded protection around the body of a bedridden patient; and especially around the hip, buttock, and lower extremity pressure points. The body cast is composed of a nanomaterial and serves as an envelope for an inner lining of a softer material such as a composite foam rubber. The body cast is sectioned into a multi-layered enclosing cloth support wrap that is fabricated from a nanomaterial, an inner surface having padding, and at least one auxiliary padding that detachably attaches to the body cast for additional padding. Labels detachably attach to the lower portion of the support wrap for indicating information pertinent to the patient. A caregiver accesses the label to read and mark directly on a bedridden patient.

Perforated binder for laminated wound dressing
11998424 · 2024-06-04 · ·

A method of manufacturing a laminated dressing that includes providing a lower layer having a fiber material that directly contacts a patient's skin and a wound area, providing an upper layer that has a foam or foam-like material that absorbs exudate and moisture, and binding the fiber-based lower layer and the foam-based upper layer with a binder layer comprising a binder material, the binder layer including a series of perforations. The perforations in the binder layer are formed by removing material from the binder layer with a pattern coated adhesive sheet prior to binding the fiber-based lower layer and the foam-based upper layer.

A binder layer for a laminated wound dressing is brought into contact with a sheet coated with a pattern-coated adhesive sheet. As the binder layer is in contact with the pattern-coated adhesive sheet, a series of closed-loop cuts are made in the binder layer. The closed-loop cuts are made in such a way that the material enclosed by each closed loop is substantially physically separated from the remainder of the binder layer. Then the binder layer is moved away from the pattern-coated adhesive sheet, so that the binder layer and the pattern-coated adhesive sheet are no longer in contact. When the binder layer and the pattern-coated adhesive sheet are moved apart, the material enclosed in the closed-loop cutsi.e., the cut waste fragmentsare retained on the pattern-coated adhesive sheet, ensuring that the binder layer includes a series of cleared perforations.

Hybrid dressings of hydrophilic material and polymer foam

Disclosed are hybrid wound dressings that include at least one front layer of a hydrophilic absorbent material and at least one layer behind the front layer that is made of an open-celled polymeric foam made from high internal phase emulsions (HIPEs). The hydrophilic absorbent material may be a natural polymeric material; a synthetic, non-foam polymer; or a material like glass microfiber. Each layer has a rate of fluid absorption and a capillary suction pressure (CSP) for a working fluid like blood plasma. The CSP increases from the front layer toward the layers behind the front layer, such that fluid is drawn away from a wound.

WOUND DRESSING

Disclosed is a wound dressing comprising: a backing layer, a wound contact layer having a first surface for directly contacting a wound bed and a second surface facing the backing layer, the wound contact layer comprising gel forming fibers; and, a superabsorbent layer, wherein the superabsorbent layer is located between the backing layer and the second surface of the wound contact layer.

Wound closure device with protective layer and method of use

A negative pressure wound closure system and methods for using such a system are described. Preferred embodiments of the invention facilitate closure of the wound by utilizing a stabilizing structure that preferentially contracts to provide for movement of the tissue. Some embodiments may utilize a protective layer, such as a mesh or net layer, attached to a top surface of the stabilizing structure. The protective layer prevents a drape positioned over the stabilizing structure from being drawn into cells of the stabilizing structure, and permits visualization of the collapse of the cells.
