METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR BONDING ELASTIC PARTS UNDER TENSION TO AN ADVANCING CARRIER
The present disclosure relates to methods and apparatuses for stretching, transferring, and bonding elastic parts under tension to an advancing carrier substrate during the assembly of absorbent articles. A continuous carrier substrate may be advanced in a machine direction at a first speed, and a discrete elastic part may be cut from a continuous elastic substrate having a direction of stretch in a cross direction. The speed of the discrete elastic part is changed from a second speed to the first speed, and the central region of the discrete elastic part is stretched in the cross direction. The discrete elastic part is bonded with the continuous carrier substrate such that the stretched central region extends in the cross direction between the first and second longitudinal edges of the continuous carrier substrate. The discrete elastic part may also be bonded with the carrier substrate with adhesive and/or mechanical bonds.
ABSORBENT ARTICLE HAVING A WAIST GASKETING ELEMENT
The present disclosure relates to absorbent articles having a waist gasketing element, with the gasketing element having an adhesive zone and one or more adhesive-free zones. At least a portion of the waist gasketing element is adhesively attached to a chassis of the absorbent article. Additionally, a portion of the waist gasketing element is mechanically attached to a portion of the absorbent article.
Elastic Core Composite or Assembly, and a System and Method for Making the Elastic Composite Assembly
Described herein is an elastic core assembly having a base nonwoven layer, a top nonwoven layer, and a plurality of spaced apart elastics sandwiched therebetween. The elastics are secured to one or both layers and form therewith, a plurality of elongated spaces wherein SAP material is deposited. Also described are s system and method of making the elastic core composite or assembly, and a disposable absorbent article incorporating the elastic core assembly.
Leg and flap elastic composite for an absorbent article and method of manufacturing same
An absorbent article having a front waist region, a back waist region, and a crotch region extending between and interconnecting the front and back waist regions. The article comprises an outer cover, a body-side liner, an absorbent assembly between the outer cover and the body-side liner, and leg and flap elastic composites including a containment flap portion and a gasket portion. Each of the composites are attached to the liner such that one of the composites is disposed adjacent one side edge of the liner and the other composite is disposed adjacent the other side edge of the liner, each of the composites extend longitudinally from the front waist region to the back waist region, and each of the composites have a deadened portion in the front waist region or the back waist region. The article further includes a waist elastic member extending longitudinally between the deadened portions.
PANT STRUCTURE WITH EFFICIENTLY MANUFACTURED AND AESTHETICALLY PLEASING REAR LEG PROFILE
A disposable absorbent pant having a front belt portion and a rear belt portion is disclosed. The front and rear belt portions are joined at side seams and the rear belt portion has a greater length than the front belt portion. A lower edge of the rear belt portion forms at least in part edges of left and right leg openings to the rear of the side seams. The rear belt portion includes first and second layers of nonwoven web material sandwiching a plurality of laterally extending and laterally pre-strained elastic strands, disposed below the side seams. A first of the plurality of elastic strands differs from a second of the plurality of elastic strands by one or more of amount of pre-strain, tensile modulus, decitex, and combinations thereof.
METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR ASSEMBLING ABSORBENT ARTICLES
The present disclosure relates to methods for assembling elastic laminates that may be used to make absorbent article components. Particular aspects of the present disclosure involve providing a first substrate and a second substrate, the first substrate and the second substrate, each having a width in a cross direction; providing an activated elastic material; elongating the activated elastic material; and ultrasonically bonding the first substrate together with the second substrate with the elongated activated elastic material positioned between the first substrate and the second substrate.
METHOD FOR APPLYING ELASTIC STRANDS
A method of applying elastic members includes applying a construction adhesive; intermittently applying an elastic adhesive; positioning first and second elastics in an elongated condition such that a first portion of the elastics are positioned in contact with both the construction adhesive and the elastic adhesive in hold zones and a second portion of the elastics are positioned in contact with the construction adhesive but not the elastic adhesive in release zones; severing the elastics in the release zones; retracting the elastics through the construction adhesive in the release zones; and maintaining the elongation of the elastics in the hold zones.
Method and apparatus for assembling absorbent articles
The present disclosure relates to methods for assembling elastic laminates that may be used to make absorbent article components. Particular aspects of the present disclosure involve a spreader mechanism operating to activate an elastic material by stretching the elastic material in to a first elongation. The elastic material is then consolidated to a second elongation, wherein the second the elongation is less than the first elongation. The consolidated elastic material is then joined to one or more substrates. In some configurations, the substrates may be nonwovens, and the elastic material may be an elastic film and/or an elastic laminate.
