MULTI EXCITATION-MULTI EMISSION FLUOROMETER FOR MULTIPARAMETER WATER QUALITY MONITORING
20200080941 · 2020-03-12 ·

A fluorometer is provided for monitoring the quality of water, featuring an array of excitation sources, an array of multiple emission detectors and a signal processor. In the array of excitation sources, each excitation source provides respective excitation source optical signaling at a respective illuminating wavelength. The array of multiple emission detectors detects multiple emission wavelengths emitted from water containing information about multiple coexisting fluorescent species present in the water that emit optical radiation at at least two different wavelengths when illuminated by the respective illuminating wavelength provided from the array of excitation sources, and provide multiple emission detector signaling containing information about the multiple coexisting fluorescent species. The signal processor receives the multiple emission detector signaling, and determines corresponding signaling containing information about an identification of the multiple coexisting fluorescent species present in the water using a near-simultaneous identification technique, based upon the multiple emission detector signaling received.

A system is provided for detecting abnormal consumption in a distributed water infrastructure. The system may comprise at least one processor. The system may receive from at least one sensor associated with the distributed water infrastructure indications of regular water usage, wherein the distributed water infrastructure includes a plurality of water appliances. The system may determine from the indications received over a time period, at least one recurring time period of expected diminished water usage. The system may determine for the at least one recurring time period of expected diminished water usage at least one expected diminished water usage profile. The system may receive from the at least one sensor during a current time period of expected diminished water usage, real time indications of water usage, which may constitute a current water usage profile. The system may compare the current water usage profile during the expected period of diminished water usage with the at least one expected diminished water usage profile. The system may, based on the comparison, determine that water usage in the current water usage profile materially exceeds water usage in the at least one expected water usage profile. The system may execute a remedial action when, based on the comparison, the current water usage profile materially exceeds the at least one expected water usage profile.

Sensor for monitoring for the presence and measurement of aqueous aldehyde biocides

An analytical system and method for periodically monitoring an injection water distribution pipeline for the presence and concentration of formaldehyde or other aldehyde-functional biocide includes pumps, one of which provides a predetermined volume of injection water drawn from the pipeline at a sampling point and another of which provides a predetermined volume of a reagent, preferably a buffered solution of dimedone, from a reagent storage vessel, wherein the injection water and reagent are mixed and then heated in a chamber to a predetermined temperature to promote formation of any reaction products. The heated reaction mixture is passed to a detection cell and exposed to light of predetermined wavelength which, in accordance with the Hantzsch reaction, molecules having an aldehyde functional group that reacted with dimedone produce a fluorescence-emitting reaction product, the intensity of which is measured and compared to data previously obtained from standard aldehyde-containing solutions.

ELECTROCHEMICAL METHOD FOR DETECTION AND QUANTIFICATION OF ORGANIC COMPOUNDS IN WATER
20200025740 · 2020-01-23 ·

Method and system for detection and quantification of oxidizable organics in water. The method involves the partial electrolytic decomposition of the oxidizable organics in a short time frame, preferably less than five seconds, and does not involve the use of toxic reagents. The system includes an electrochemical sensor probe that, in turn, includes a boron-doped diamond microelectrode array. The system additionally includes an electronic transducer and a computing device. The system utilizes an analysis technique to convert sensor signal to a result that can be correlated with COD or BOD values obtained by standard methods. The method and system are particularly suitable for, but not limited to, use in monitoring of water quality at wastewater treatment plants. By employing the method before and after adding aerobic microorganisms to the sample, the method may be used to distinguish biologically oxidizable organics from total oxidizable organics.
