An absorbent article includes a body and a hip holding portion. The body has a shape having a predetermined length in a front-rear direction and a predetermined width in a direction perpendicular to the front-rear direction. The hip holding portion includes a side region protruding from a rear side portion of the body and a rear region protruding from the rear end of the body, and includes a first protruding portion including a portion where the width of the body from a centerline in the front-rear direction is largest, a first depressed portion forward of and adjacent to the first protruding portion, and a second protruding portion forward of and adjacent to the first depressed portion in the side region. The width of the second protruding portion from the centerline is smaller than or equal to the smallest width of the first depressed portion from the centerline.

An absorbent article which can be more readily adaptable to meet the needs of the individual wearer of the absorbent article includes a topsheet layer, a backsheet layer, and an absorbent core between the topsheet layer and the backsheet layer. The absorbent article further includes an extendable portion capable of being utilized by the wearer to provide additional area of coverage as deemed suitable by the wearer of the absorbent article.

An absorbent article has longitudinal edges, front and rear end regions, and a central region between the end regions, and an absorbent core disposed between a topsheet and a backsheet. A pair of central side flaps extend laterally outward from longitudinal edges of the absorbent core in the central region, and a pair of rear side flaps extend laterally outward from longitudinal edges of the absorbent core in the rear end region. A support layer disposed between the topsheet and the backsheet in the rear end region extends from one of the rear side flaps to the other outboard of the longitudinal edges of the absorbent core but inboard of the longitudinal edges of the article. The support layer is absent in the central side flaps. A channel with a plurality of first areas and second areas alternately spaced along at least a portion of a length of the channel is present.

The present invention addresses the problem of providing an absorbent article that has an improved ability to transfer menstrual blood from a liquid-permeable layer to an absorbent body and can reduce the amount of the menstrual blood remaining in the liquid-permeable layer. To solve this problem, provided is a sanitary napkin provided with a top sheet, a back sheet and an absorbent body that is interposed between the top sheet and the back sheet, wherein convex portions formed in an excretion orifice contact region of the top sheet are coated with a blood lubricity-imparting agent that has a kinetic viscosity of 0.01-80 mm.sup.2/s at 40° C., a water retention rate of 0.01-4.0 mass % and a weight-average molecular weight of less than 1,000.

Disclosed is an absorbent article with biocompostable properties, such as a feminine hygiene pad. Particularly, the present invention is directed to an absorbent sanitary article with a high degree of biocompostability. The sanitary article comprises, in one embodiment, at least a top layer, a back layer, and absorbent core, wherein the absorbent core includes a superabsorbent polymer, and wherein at least the superabsorbent polymer is biocompostable. The absorbent article exhibits improved biocompostable properties and performance comparable to non-biodegradable absorbent articles which include non-biodegradable superabsorbent polymers.

Disclosed is an absorbent article with biocompostable properties, such as a feminine hygiene pad. Particularly, the present invention is directed to an absorbent sanitary article with a high degree of biocompostability. The sanitary article comprises, in one embodiment, at least a top layer, a back layer, and absorbent core, wherein the absorbent core includes a superabsorbent polymer, and wherein at least the superabsorbent polymer is biocompostable. The absorbent article exhibits improved biocompostable properties and performance comparable to non-biodegradable absorbent articles which include non-biodegradable superabsorbent polymers.

The present invention also relates to a method of selectively maintaining menstrual fluid within the vagina by means of using such article.
