DEVICES TO ASSIST ECOSYSTEM DEVELOPMENT AND PRESERVATION
A system for preserving or establishing an ecosystem comprises an assembly coupled to a guidance component. An assembly comprises an enclosure and a substrate, and is configured to contain one or more organisms within the enclosure. The guidance component causes the assembly to be transported to a destination environment. The assembly is decoupled from the guidance component. The assembly detaches from the substrate, to integrate the one or more organisms into an ecosystem of the destination environment.
Compositions and methods to selectively control invasive species
Methods and compositions for controlling the growth of an invasive species by application of a composition comprised of a natural pesticide derived from a species to the invasive species, especially endocides.
Methods of agent delivery into eggs and embryos of egg-producing aquatic animals for drug screening, agent toxicity assay and production of infertile fish
Methods are provided for delivery of at least one agent into egg(s) from an egg-producing aquatic animal including contacting fertilized or unfertilized egg(s) from said egg-producing aquatic animal with the at least one agent in the presence of a guanidine-containing compound capable of enhancing the permeability of the chorion of the egg(s). Methods are provided for the drug screening and compound toxicity assays. Methods are also provided for the production of reproductively sterile fish and aquatic animals for aquaculture, the aquarium trade, and control of invasive species are described. The methods include disruption of gonadal development through the administration of agents that lead to the failure of fertile gonadal development. Agents may be delivered to the eggs directly before the fertilization or post fertilization by contacting eggs in an immersion medium including the agent of interest.
HYDRAULIC SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR WATER CONTROL
Aspects of the present disclosure involve hydraulic systems and methods for altering a flow of a body of water, such as a river, channel, and/or other flowing or uncontained bodies of water. In one aspect, a hydraulic system provides a velocity barrier for the impedance of aquatic organism migration. More particularly, the velocity barrier may be adapted based on the swimming capabilities of one or more aquatic organisms to impede migration. The aquatic organism may be one or more species of fish, such as species sea lamprey (Petromyzon marinus). The example implementations shown and described herein reference the restriction of the sea lamprey. However, it will be appreciated that other aquatic organisms could be restricted by the presently disclosed technology, for example, with different hydraulic targets depending on swimming capabilities.
COMPOSITION COMPRISING NUCLEIC ACIDS OF PARASITIC, PATHOGENIC OR INFESTING BIOLOGICAL SYSTEMS FOR INHIBITING AND/OR CONTROLLING THE GROWTH OF SAID SYSTEMS AND PROCESS FOR THE PREPARATION THEREOF
The present disclosure describes a DNA fragment mixture for the prevention or for the treatment of at least one pathogenic, parasitic or infesting species of plants or of the environment, wherein the DNA mixture consists of random fragments of total DNA of at least one pathogenic, parasitic, or infesting species, and/or at least one phylogenetically similar species, against which the prevention and treatment are directed. Further, the disclosure describes a process and related system for improvement of the production/growth of microorganisms at high yield in bioreactors or photobioreactors, or of plants in different culture systems, where the nucleic acids of the organisms produced/grown by such a process are removed from the culture medium and the culture medium, deprived of these nucleic acid, is used again in the process.
SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR TREATING UNDERWATER INVASIVE SPECIES
An underwater device for subduing underwater invasive species includes a translucent or transparent fixture having a TiO2 coating on at least one side of the fixture and a light source positioned to expose the coating with light having sufficient intensity and selected range of frequencies to activate the photocatalytic TiO2 coated fixture.
METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR CONTROL OF AQUATIC INVASIVE SPECIES USING HYDROXIDE STABILIZATION
An airlift, water mixing system that passes biocides, algaecides and gas through a ship's ballast water tanks and its pipping to control water PH. Vertically moving diffusion grids provide air sparging in treated ballast water that accommodates variances in ballast water levels without changes in pressure or power used by an air compressor connected to a diffusion grid.
ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY COMPOSITIONS FOR FOLIAR AND GRANULAR CONTROL OF WEEDS
This present disclosure provides compositions of phytotoxic micronutrients and/or combinations of phytotoxic micronutrients and agricultural compositions and their use for selectively and effectively controlling invasive plants. Also, provided herewith is methods of controlling weeds in a plant community by applying granular and/or liquid formulations of said compositions and/or said combinations to soil and/or foliar portions of the plant.
Foliar applications of low-concentration phytotoxic micronutrient compounds for selective control of invasive plant species
This invention provides low-dose, low-concentration formulations of phytotoxic trace inorganic compounds for use in methods and systems for selectively and effectively controlling invasive plants.
METHODS AND SYSTEMS FOR NUCLEIC ACID AMPLIFICATION
The disclosure provides methods and systems for nucleic acid amplification including isothermal nucleic acid amplification.
