An air conditioner includes a housing having a first outlet and a second outlet, a first channel communicating with the first outlet, a second channel communicating with the second outlet, a tank unit configured to hold water for cooling first air and second air, the first air flowing through the first channel, the second air flowing through the second channel, a cooling unit configured to cool the first air by heat of vaporization of water held in the tank unit, a water supply channel for supplying water held in the tank unit to the cooling unit, and a water recovery channel for collecting water remaining in the cooling unit to the tank unit.

Pulsing adiabatic gas cooler

A method by a controller of a cooling system includes calculating a difference between a first temperature of ambient air and a second temperature of pre-cooled air. The pre-cooled air is ambient air that has been cooled by water from a water distribution system before it enters one or more condenser coils. The method further includes determining that the difference between the first and second temperatures is less than or equal to a predetermined temperature difference, and in response, determining that the first temperature is greater than or equal to a minimum temperature. The method further includes, if the first temperature is greater than or equal to the minimum temperature, instructing the water distribution system to distribute the water to pre-cool the ambient air for a predetermined length of time and to disable the distribution of the water after the predetermined amount of time has elapsed.

A heating, ventilating, and/or air conditioning (HVAC) system includes a variable speed pump configured to direct a chilled fluid through a free cooling circuit of the HVAC system. The free cooling circuit is configured to place the chilled fluid in a heat exchange relationship with ambient air. The HVAC system also includes a heat exchanger configured to place the chilled fluid in a heat exchange relationship with a conditioning fluid and a controller configured to operate the variable speed pump based on a parameter of the HVAC system.

Evaporative cooler

Systems and methods for evaporatively cooling air wherein a cooling system enclosure is alternately expandable and contractible. The housing is expandable for operation and contractible for storage or transportation. A water distributor delivers water from a source to evaporative media within the enclosure. Air is circulated over the evaporative media to cool the air. The enclosure may be expanded by creating a positive pressure differential between the interior and exterior of the enclosure. The water distributor and evaporative media may be configured to move from storage to operating positions within the enclosure as the enclosure moves from the contracted position to the expanded position. The enclosure may include substantially rigid portions that form a protective housing for the internal cooling components when in the contracted storage position. Wheels and stowable handles may facilitate transportation of the system.

Control systems are provided that provide thermodynamically decoupled control of temperature and relative humidity and/or reduce or prevent frost formation or remove previously-formed frost. The control systems herein may be included as a component of a heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration system that includes a heat exchanger.

Heat exchange system

A heat exchange system includes a heat-absorbing substance such as Liquid Natural Gas (LNG), a heat dissipation apparatus, a water storage tank, a heat exchanger, and a heat exchanger. The heat exchanger is coupled between the LNG and the water storage tank. The heat exchanger is coupled between the heat dissipation apparatus and the water storage tank. The heat exchanger transfers heat of the heat dissipation apparatus to water of the water storage tank to lose heat to the heat exchanger, and the heat exchanger transfers heat of the water to the LNG.

Damper fault detection

A damper controller may be configured to send damper control commands to open and close an outdoor air damper to provide free cooling as necessary to satisfy a temperature setpoint inside the building. In some cases, the damper controller may initiate a damper fault test to determine if a damper fault is present. The damper fault test may be based, at least in part, on an outdoor air temperature input, a discharge air temperature input, a commanded damper position, and a damper fault temperature threshold. If a damper fault is determined, the damper controller may send an alert indicative of a detected damper fault. In some cases, the damper fault test results may be weighted to reduce the false positives alerts.
