VEHICLE, ENVIRONMENTAL CONTROL SYSTEM, AND METHOD FOR OPERATING AN ENVIRONMENTAL CONTROL SYSTEM

Vehicles, environmental control systems, and methods for operating an environmental control system are provided. In one example, the environmental control system (ECS) includes an ECS refrigeration unit that is configured to receive ambient air and a first portion and a second portion of hot bleed air. The ECS refrigeration unit is operable to indirectly exchange heat between the first portion of the hot bleed air and the ambient air to form a partially cooled, hot air stream, and to compress, further indirect heat exchange, and expand the partially cooled, hot air stream to form a cooled and expanded air stream. A low limit valve control regulates a low limit valve to control a rate of introduction of the second portion of the hot bleed air to the cooled and expanded air stream to form a combined air stream that when exiting the ECS refrigeration unit is a sub-freezing air stream.

The disclosure is directed to an independent manual control system of an all-electric cabin pressure control system (CPCS). The manual control system may include a momentary electrical switch to manually set the position of an outflow valve (OFV) along with a closed loop control to hold the cabin pressure at the pressure setpoint. The closed loop control of the manual control system is independent from the automatic pressure control functions of the all-electric CPCS.

A trim heat exchanger is connected to the trim outlet and the at least one inlet of the environmental control system pack. Within the trim heat exchanger, the trim medium is arranged in a heat exchange relationship with a second medium. From the trim heat exchanger, the second medium is provided to an inlet of the least one environmental control system pack and the trim medium is mixed with a flow output from an outlet of the mixing manifold.

The engine bleed control system also includes a controller operable to selectively drive the motorized compressor to boost a bleed air pressure as pressure augmented bleed air and control delivery of the pressure augmented bleed air to an aircraft use.
